¹³ They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind.

⁴² Nevertheless, ^(A)many even of the authorities believed in him, but ^(B)for fear of the Pharisees they did not ^(C)confess it, so that they would not be ^(D)put out of the synagogue;

⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should let them know, so that they might arrest him.

⁴⁶ but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ So the chief priests and the Pharisees ^(A)gathered ^(B)the council and said, ^(C)“What are we to do? For this man performs many signs.

³ The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst ⁴ they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. ⁵ Now ^(A)in the Law, Moses commanded us ^(B)to stone such women. So what do you say?” ⁶ This they said ^(C)to test him, ^(D)that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. ⁷ And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, ^(E)“Let him who is without sin among you ^(F)be the first to throw a stone at her.” ⁸ And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground.

¹⁹ So the Pharisees said to one another, ^(A)“You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, ^(B)the world has gone after him.”
