The Truth Will Set You Free

³¹ So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ^(A)“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,

⁹ Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, ^(A)does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching ^(B)has both the Father and the Son.

^4 (A)Abide ^(B)in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. ⁵ I am the vine; ^(C)you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that ^(D)bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. ⁶ If anyone does not abide in me ^(E)he is thrown away like a branch and withers; ^(F)and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. ⁷ If ^(G)you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ^(H)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. ^8 (I)By this my Father is glorified, that you ^(J)bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. ^9 (K)As the Father has loved me, ^(L)so have I loved you. Abide in my love.

¹⁴ But as for you, ^(A)continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom^[a] you learned it

^16 (A)Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save ^(B)both yourself and ^(C)your hearers.

²⁵ But the one who looks into the perfect law, ^(A)the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, ^(B)he will be blessed in his doing.

^23 (A)if indeed you continue in the faith, ^(B)stable and steadfast, not shifting from ^(C)the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed ^(D)in all creation^[a] under heaven, ^(E)and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

^66 (A)After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. ⁶⁷ So Jesus said to ^(B)the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have ^(C)the words of eternal life, ⁶⁹ and ^(D)we have believed, and have come to know, that ^(E)you are ^(F)the Holy One of God.” ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, ^(G)“Did I not choose you, ^(H)the twelve? And yet one of you is ^(I)a devil.” ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas ^(J)the son of Simon Iscariot, for ^(K)he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.

¹⁴ If you will ^(A)fear the Lord and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God, it will be well.
