Jesus Feeds Five Thousand
6 After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. 2 A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. 3 Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. 4 (It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) 5 Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” 6 He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.
7 Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money[a] to feed them!”
8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9 “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”
10 “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.
14 When the people saw him[b] do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!”[c] 15 When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself.
Jesus Walks on Water
16 That evening Jesus’ disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. 17 But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed across the lake toward Capernaum. 18 Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough. 19 They had rowed three or four miles[d] when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, 20 but he called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here![e]” 21 Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination!
Jesus, the Bread of Life
22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the far shore saw that the disciples had taken the only boat, and they realized Jesus had not gone with them. 23 Several boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the Lord had blessed the bread and the people had eaten. 24 So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went across to Capernaum to look for him. 25 They found him on the other side of the lake and asked, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”
26 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. 27 But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man[f] can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”
28 They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”
29 Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
30 They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? 31 After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’[g]”
32 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. 33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.”
35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me. 37 However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. 38 For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. 39 And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. 40 For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”
41 Then the people[h] began to murmur in disagreement because he had said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and mother. How can he say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
43 But Jesus replied, “Stop complaining about what I said. 44 For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up. 45 As it is written in the Scriptures,[i] ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 (Not that anyone has ever seen the Father; only I, who was sent from God, have seen him.)
47 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. 48 Yes, I am the bread of life! 49 Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. 50 Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
52 Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.
53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. 54 But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57 I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”
59 He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Many Disciples Desert Jesus
60 Many of his disciples said, “This is very hard to understand. How can anyone accept it?”
61 Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining, so he said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again? 63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But some of you do not believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.) 65 Then he said, “That is why I said that people can’t come to me unless the Father gives them to me.”
66 At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. 67 Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.[j]”
70 Then Jesus said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.” 71 He was speaking of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who would later betray him.

Ang Salita ng Diyos
Ang Pagpapakain ni Jesus sa Limang Libong Lalaki
6 Pagkatapos ng mga bagay na ito ay tumawid si Jesus sa lawa ng Galilea. Ito ay ang lawa ng Tiberias.
2 Maraming mga tao ang sumunod sa kaniya dahil nakita nila ang mga tanda na kaniyang ginawa sa mga maysakit. 3 Si Jesus ay umakyat sa bundok at umupo roon na kasama ng kaniyang mga alagad. 4 Malapit na ang araw ng Paglagpas, ang kapistahan ng mga Judio.
5 Nang tumingin si Jesus sa paligid, nakita niya ang napakaraming taong papalapit sa kaniya. Sinabi niya kay Felipe: Saan tayo makakabili ng tinapay upang makakain ang mga ito? 6 Sinabi niya ito upang subukin si Felipe sapagkat alam na niya kung ano ang kaniyang gagawin.
7 Sumagot si Felipe sa kaniya: Ang dalawandaang denaryong tinapay ay hindi sapat sa kanila upang makatanggap ng kaunti ang bawat isa sa kanila.
8 Isa sa kaniyang mga alagad, si Andres, na kapatid ni Simon Pedro ay nagsabi sa kaniya: 9 Mayroong isang batang lalaki rito na may limang tinapay na sebada at dalawang maliit na isda. Gasino na ito sa ganitong karaming tao?
10 Sinabi ni Jesus: Paupuin ninyo ang mga tao. Madamo sa dakong iyon kaya umupo ang mga lalaki na ang dami ay humigit-kumulang sa limang libo. 11 Kinuha ni Jesus ang mga tinapay. Nang makapagpasalamat siya, ipinamahagi niya ito sa mga alagad at ipinamahagi naman ng mga nila sa mga nakaupo. Gayundin ang ginawa sa mga isda, ito ay ipinamahagi gaano man ang kanilang ibigin.
12 Nang sila ay mabusog, sinabi niya sa kaniyang mga alagad: Ipunin ninyo ang mga lumabis na bahagi upang walang masayang. 13 Inipon nga nila ang mga lumabis. Nakapuno sila ng labindalawang bakol ng bahaging mula sa limang tinapay na sebada na lumabis sa mga kumain.
14 Nakita ng mga tao ang tandang ginawa ni Jesus. Dahil dito kanilang sinabi: Totoong ito na nga ang propeta na darating sa sanlibutan. 15 Nalaman ni Jesus na sila ay papalapit at siya ay susunggaban upang gawing hari. Dahil dito siya ay umalis at pumuntang muli na nag-iisa sa bundok.
Lumakad si Jesus sa Ibabaw ng Tubig
16 Nang magtakipsilim na, lumusong ang kaniyang mga alagad sa lawa.
17 Sumakay sila sa bangka. Sila ay papatawid ng lawa patungong Capernaum. Dumilim na at hindi pa nila kasama si Jesus. 18 Sa pag-ihip ng malakas na hangin, ang lawa ay naging maalon. 19 Nang sila ay nakagaod na ng may lima o anim na kilometro nakita nila si Jesus. Siya ay lumalakad sa ibabaw ng lawa papalapit sa bangka at sila ay natakot. 20 Ngunit sinabi niya sa kanila: Ako ito, huwag kayong matakot. 21 Malugod nga nilang pinasakay si Jesus sa bangka. Kapagdaka, ang bangka ay nasa lupa na ng kanilang pupuntahan.
22 Kinabukasan, nakita ng mga taong nanatili sa kabilang ibayo ng lawa na walang ibang bangka roon. Ang naroroon lang ay ang sinakyan ng mga alagad ni Jesus. Alam nilang hindi sumama si Jesus sa kaniyang mga alagad sa bangka at sila lang ang umalis. 23 May ibang mga bangkang dumating na mula sa Tiberias. Ito ay malapit sa pook na kung saan sila ay kumain ng tinapay pagkatapos pasalamatan ng Panginoon. 24 Nakita nga ng mga tao na wala si Jesus maging ang mga alagad niya. Pagkatapos sumakay rin sila sa mga bangka at pumunta sa Capernaum at hinahanap nila si Jesus.
Si Jesus ang Tinapay ng Buhay
25 Natagpuan nila siya sa kabilang dako ng lawa. Pagkakita nila, tinanong nila siya: Guro, kailan ka pumunta rito?
26 Sumagot si Jesus sa kanila at sinabi: Katotohanan, katotohanang sinasabi ko sa inyo: Hinanap ninyo ako hindi sa dahilang nakita ninyo ang mga tanda. Ang dahilan ay nakakain kayo ng mga tinapay na sebada at nasiyahan. 27 Huwag kayong gumawa para sa pagkaing nasisira kundi gumawa kayo para sa pagkaing mananatili sa walang hanggang buhay. Ito ay ang ibibigay sa inyo ng Anak ng Tao sapagkat siya ang tinatakan ng Diyos Ama.
28 Sinabi nga nila sa kaniya: Ano ang gagawin namin upang aming magawa ang mga gawaing mula sa Diyos?
29 Sumagot si Jesus at sinabi sa kanila: Ito ang gawain mula sa Diyos, na kayo ay sumampalataya sa kaniya na isinugo ng Ama.
30 Sinabi nga nila sa kaniya: Ano ngayon ang tandang gagawin mo upang makita namin at sumampalataya kami sa iyo? Ano ang gagawin mo? 31 Ang mga ninuno namin ay kumain ng mana sa ilang. Katulad ng nasusulat: Binigyan niya sila ng tinapay na kakainin na nagmula sa langit.
32 Sinabi nga ni Jesus sa kanila: Katotohanan, katotohanang sinasabi ko sa inyo: Hindi kayo binigyan ni Moises ng tinapay mula sa langit. Ang aking Ama ang nagbibigay sa inyo ng tunay na tinapay mula sa langit. 33 Ito ay sapagkat ang tinapay ng Diyos ay siya na bumabang mula sa langit at nagbibigay ng buhay sa sanlibutan.
34 Kanila ngang sinabi sa kaniya: Panginoon, bigyan mo kami ng tinapay na ito.
35 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila: Ako ang tinapay ng buhay. Siya na lumalapit sa akin ay hindi na magugutom kailanman. Siya na sumasampalataya sa akin ay hindi na mauuhaw kailanman. 36 Sinabi ko sa inyo, na nakita rin ninyo ako at hindi kayo sumampalataya. 37 Ang lahat ng ibinigay sa akin ng Ama ay lalapit sa akin. Siya na lalapit sa akin ay hindi ko itataboy kailanman. 38 Ito ay sapagkat ako ay bumaba mula sa langit hindi upang gawin ang sarili kong kalooban kundi ang kalooban niya na nagsugo sa akin. 39 Ito ang kalooban ng Ama na nagsugo sa akin: Wala akong iwawaglit sa lahat nang ibinigay niya sa akin ngunit ibabangon siya sa huling araw. 40 Ito ang kalooban niya na nagsugo sa akin: Ang bawat isa na nakakakita sa Anak at sumasampalataya sa kaniya ay magkakaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan. Ibabangon ko siya sa huling araw.
41 Ang mga Judio nga ay nagbulung-bulungan patungkol sa kaniya dahil sinabi niya: Ako ang tinapay na bumabang mula sa langit. 42 Sinabi nila: Hindi ba ito ay si Jesus na anak ni Jose at kilala natin ang kaniyang ama at ina? Papaano nga niya masasabing: Ako ay bumabang mula sa langit?
43 Sumagot nga si Jesus at sinabi sa kanila: Huwag kayong magbulong-bulungan. 44 Walang taong makakalapit sa akin malibang ilapit siya ng Ama na nagsugo sa akin at ibabangon ko siya sa huling araw. 45 Nasusulat sa aklat ng mga propeta: At silang lahat ay tuturuan ng Diyos. Ang bawat isa nga na nakarinig sa Ama at natuto ay lumalapit sa akin. 46 Ito ay hindi dahil sa nakita ng sinuman ang Ama. Ang tanging nakakita sa Ama ay siya na mula sa Diyos. 47 Katotohanan, katotohanang sinasabi ko sa inyo: Siya na sumasampalataya sa akin ay may buhay na walang hanggan. 48 Ako ang tinapay ng buhay. 49 Ang inyong mga magulang na kumain ng tinapay sa ilang ay nangamatay na. 50 Ito ang tinapay na bumabang mula sa langit. Maaaring kumain nito ang sinuman at hindi mamamatay. 51 Ako ang tinapay na buhay na bumaba mula sa langit. Ang sinumang makakain ng tinapay na ito ay mabubuhay magpakailanman. Ang tinapay na aking ibibigay ay ang aking laman. Ito ang aking ibibigay para sa buhay ng sanlibutan.
52 Nagtalo-talo nga ang mga Judio. Kanilang sinabi: Papaano niya maibibigay sa atin ang kaniyang laman upang kainin?
53 Sinabi nga ni Jesus sa kanila: Katotohanan, katotohanang sinasabi ko sa inyo: Malibang kayo ay makakain ng laman ng Anak ng tao at makainom ng kaniyang dugo ay wala kayong buhay. 54 Siya na kumakain ng aking laman at umiinom ng aking dugo ay may buhay na walang hanggan. Ibabangon ko siya sa huling araw. 55 Ito ay sapagkat ang aking laman ay totoong pagkain at ang aking dugo ay totoong inumin. 56 Siya na kumakain ng aking laman at umiinom ng aking dugo ay nananatili sa akin. Ako naman ay sumasa kaniya. 57 Ang Amang buhay ang nagsugo sa akin at ako ay nabubuhay dahil sa Ama. Gayundin ang kumakain sa akin. Siya ay mabubuhay dahil sa akin. 58 Ito ang tinapay na bumabang mula sa langit. Hindi ito tulad nang ang inyong mga ninuno ay kumain ng mana at ngayon ay mga patay na. Siya na kumakain ng tinapay na ito ay mabubuhay magpakailanman. 59 Sinabi niya ang mga bagay na ito nang siya ay nagtuturo sa sinagoga sa Capernaum.
Marami sa mga Alagad ang Tumalikod kay Jesus
60 Marami nga sa kaniyang mga alagad na nang marinig ito ay nagsabi: Mahirap ang pananalitang ito. Sino ang makakaunawa nito?
61 Nalalaman ni Jesus sa sarili niya na nagbubulong-bulungan ang kaniyang mga alagad patungkol dito. Sinabi niya sa kanila: Nakakatisod ba ang sinabi ko sa inyo? 62 Gaano pa kaya kung makita ninyo ang Anak ng Tao na pumapaitaas sa dati niyang kinaroroonan? 63 Ang Espiritu ang siyang nagbibigay buhay. Walang napapakinabangan ang laman. Ang mga salitang sinasabi ko sa inyo ay espiritu at buhay. 64 Subalit mayroong ilan sa inyo na hindi sumasampalataya. Alam ni Jesus nang simula pa kung sino sila na hindi sasampalataya at kung sino ang magkakanulo sa kaniya. 65 Sinabi niya: Kaya nga, sinabi ko sa inyo: Walang sinumang makakalapit sa akin malibang ibigay ito sa kaniya ng aking Ama.
66 Mula noon marami sa kaniyang mga alagad ang bumalik at hindi na sumama sa kaniya.
67 Kaya nga, sinabi ni Jesus sa labindalawa: Nais din ba ninyong umalis?
68 Sumagot sa kaniya si Simon Pedro: Panginoon, kanino kami pupunta? Nasa iyo ang mga salita ng walang hanggang buhay. 69 Kami ay sumampalataya at nalaman namin na ikaw ang Mesiyas, ang Anak ng buhay na Diyos.
70 Sumagot sa kanila si Jesus: Hindi ba labindalawa kayong pinili ko at isa sa inyo ay diyablo? 71 Ang tinutukoy niya ay si Judas na taga-Keriot na anak ni Simon sapagkat siya ang magkakanulo sa kaniya. Siya ay isa sa labindalawa.

6 Après cela, Jésus s'en alla de l'autre côté de la mer de Galilée, de Tibériade.
2 Une grande foule le suivait, parce qu'elle voyait les miracles qu'il opérait sur les malades.
3 Jésus monta sur la montagne, et là il s'assit avec ses disciples.
4 Or, la Pâque était proche, la fête des Juifs.
5 Ayant levé les yeux, et voyant qu'une grande foule venait à lui, Jésus dit à Philippe: Où achèterons-nous des pains, pour que ces gens aient à manger?
6 Il disait cela pour l'éprouver, car il savait ce qu'il allait faire.
7 Philippe lui répondit: Les pains qu'on aurait pour deux cents deniers ne suffiraient pas pour que chacun en reçût un peu.
8 Un de ses disciples, André, frère de Simon Pierre, lui dit:
9 Il y a ici un jeune garçon qui a cinq pains d'orge et deux poissons; mais qu'est-ce que cela pour tant de gens?
10 Jésus dit: Faites-les asseoir. Il y avait dans ce lieu beaucoup d'herbe. Ils s'assirent donc, au nombre d'environ cinq mille hommes.
11 Jésus prit les pains, rendit grâces, et les distribua à ceux qui étaient assis; il leur donna de même des poissons, autant qu'ils en voulurent.
12 Lorsqu'ils furent rassasiés, il dit à ses disciples: Ramassez les morceaux qui restent, afin que rien ne se perde.
13 Ils les ramassèrent donc, et ils remplirent douze paniers avec les morceaux qui restèrent des cinq pains d'orge, après que tous eurent mangé.
14 Ces gens, ayant vu le miracle que Jésus avait fait, disaient: Celui-ci est vraiment le prophète qui doit venir dans le monde.
15 Et Jésus, sachant qu'ils allaient venir l'enlever pour le faire roi, se retira de nouveau sur la montagne, lui seul.
16 Quand le soir fut venu, ses disciples descendirent au bord de la mer.
17 Étant montés dans une barque, ils traversaient la mer pour se rendre à Capernaüm. Il faisait déjà nuit, et Jésus ne les avait pas encore rejoints.
18 Il soufflait un grand vent, et la mer était agitée.
19 Après avoir ramé environ vingt-cinq ou trente stades, ils virent Jésus marchant sur la mer et s'approchant de la barque. Et ils eurent peur.
20 Mais Jésus leur dit: C'est moi; n'ayez pas peur!
21 Ils voulaient donc le prendre dans la barque, et aussitôt la barque aborda au lieu où ils allaient.
22 La foule qui était restée de l'autre côté de la mer avait remarqué qu'il ne se trouvait là qu'une seule barque, et que Jésus n'était pas monté dans cette barque avec ses disciples, mais qu'ils étaient partis seuls.
23 Le lendemain, comme d'autres barques étaient arrivées de Tibériade près du lieu où ils avaient mangé le pain après que le Seigneur eut rendu grâces,
24 les gens de la foule, ayant vu que ni Jésus ni ses disciples n'étaient là, montèrent eux-mêmes dans ces barques et allèrent à Capernaüm à la recherche de Jésus.
25 Et l'ayant trouvé au delà de la mer, ils lui dirent: Rabbi, quand es-tu venu ici?
26 Jésus leur répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous me cherchez, non parce que vous avez vu des miracles, mais parce que vous avez mangé des pains et que vous avez été rassasiés.
27 Travaillez, non pour la nourriture qui périt, mais pour celle qui subsiste pour la vie éternelle, et que le Fils de l'homme vous donnera; car c'est lui que le Père, que Dieu a marqué de son sceau.
28 Ils lui dirent: Que devons-nous faire, pour faire les oeuvres de Dieu?
29 Jésus leur répondit: L'oeuvre de Dieu, c'est que vous croyiez en celui qu'il a envoyé.
30 Quel miracle fais-tu donc, lui dirent-ils, afin que nous le voyions, et que nous croyions en toi? Que fais-tu?
31 Nos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert, selon ce qui est écrit: Il leur donna le pain du ciel à manger.
32 Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, Moïse ne vous a pas donné le pain du ciel, mais mon Père vous donne le vrai pain du ciel;
33 car le pain de Dieu, c'est celui qui descend du ciel et qui donne la vie au monde.
34 Ils lui dirent: Seigneur, donne-nous toujours ce pain.
35 Jésus leur dit: Je suis le pain de vie. Celui qui vient à moi n'aura jamais faim, et celui qui croit en moi n'aura jamais soif.
36 Mais, je vous l'ai dit, vous m'avez vu, et vous ne croyez point.
37 Tous ceux que le Père me donne viendront à moi, et je ne mettrai pas dehors celui qui vient à moi;
38 car je suis descendu du ciel pour faire, non ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé.
39 Or, la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé, c'est que je ne perde rien de tout ce qu'il m'a donné, mais que je le ressuscite au dernier jour.
40 La volonté de mon Père, c'est que quiconque voit le Fils et croit en lui ait la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.
41 Les Juifs murmuraient à son sujet, parce qu'il avait dit: Je suis le pain qui est descendu du ciel.
42 Et ils disaient: N'est-ce pas là Jésus, le fils de Joseph, celui dont nous connaissons le père et la mère? Comment donc dit-il: Je suis descendu du ciel?
43 Jésus leur répondit: Ne murmurez pas entre vous.

64 Mais il en est parmi vous quelques-uns qui ne croient point. Car Jésus savait dès le commencement qui étaient ceux qui ne croyaient point, et qui était celui qui le livrerait.

70 Jésus leur répondit: N'est-ce pas moi qui vous ai choisis, vous les douze? Et l'un de vous est un démon!

6 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. 4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. 5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? 10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. 15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, 17 and entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. 18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. 19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. 20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. 21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. 70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
6 After this (A)Jesus went away to the other side of (B)the Sea of Galilee, which is (C)the Sea of Tiberias. 2 And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. 3 Jesus went up on (D)the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. 4 Now (E)the Passover, the (F)feast of the Jews, was at hand. 5 (G)Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to (H)Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 (I)Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[a] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” 8 One of his disciples, (J)Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five (K)barley loaves and two fish, but (L)what are they for so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” (M)Now there was much grass in the place. Jesus Walks on Water
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles,[b] they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. 20 (U)But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
I Am the Bread of Life
22 On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only (V)one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. 23 Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord (W)had given thanks. 24 (X)So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and (Y)went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, (Z)“Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (AA)you are seeking me, not because you saw (AB)signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 (AC)Do not work for the food that perishes, but for (AD)the food that endures to eternal life, which (AE)the Son of Man will give to you. The Words of Eternal Life
60 (CM)When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, (CN)knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see (CO)the Son of Man (CP)ascending to (CQ)where he was before? 63 (CR)It is the Spirit who gives life; (CS)the flesh is no help at all. (CT)The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But (CU)there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus (CV)knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and (CW)who it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you (CX)that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
66 (CY)After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to (CZ)the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go?
