²⁸ Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

²⁹ Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe^(A) in the one he has sent.”^(B)

³ “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.^{(A) 4} As long as it is day,^(B) we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. ⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”^(C)

⁶ After saying this, he spit^(D) on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ⁷ “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam”^(E) (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.^(F)

³² but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

³⁷ Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.^{(A) 38} But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”^(B)

¹⁰ Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?^(A) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.^(B) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. ¹¹ Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.^(C)

²⁶ Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”^(A)
