³ In these lay many ill, blind, lame, and paralyzed people.^[a]

The Man with a Withered Hand

3 Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand.^{(A) 2} They were watching him to see whether he would cure him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.^{(B) 3} And he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come forward.” ⁴ Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

²² And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight; the lame walk; those with a skin disease are cleansed; the deaf hear; the dead are raised; the poor have good news brought to them.^(A)

³⁰ Great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the maimed, the mute, and many others. They put them at his feet, and he cured them,^(A)

²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Patience in Suffering

⁷ Be patient, therefore, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.^(A)

⁴ When the king heard what the man of God cried out against the altar at Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” But the hand that he stretched out against him withered so that he could not draw it back to himself.
