²⁴ “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me^(A) has eternal life^(B) and will not be judged^(C) but has crossed over from death to life.^(D)

⁴³ All the prophets testify about him^(A) that everyone^(B) who believes^(C) in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”^(D)

¹⁷ I will rescue you^(A) from your own people and from the Gentiles.^(B) I am sending you to them ¹⁸ to open their eyes^(C) and turn them from darkness to light,^(D) and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins^(E) and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’^(F)

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel,^(A) because it is the power of God^(B) that brings salvation to everyone who believes:^(C) first to the Jew,^(D) then to the Gentile.^{(E) 17} For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed^(F)—a righteousness that is by faith^(G) from first to last,^[a] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”^[b](H)

²⁶ he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

¹³ It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise^(A) that he would be heir of the world,^(B) but through the righteousness that comes by faith.^{(C) 14} For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless,^(D)

²² This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”^{(A) 23} The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, ²⁴ but also for us,^(B) to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him^(C) who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.^(D)

³ Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized^(A) into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴ We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death^(B) in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead^(C) through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.^(D)

¹⁷ But thanks be to God^(A) that, though you used to be slaves to sin,^(B) you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching^(C) that has now claimed your allegiance. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin^(D) and have become slaves to righteousness.^(E)

¹⁹ I am using an example from everyday life^(F) because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness^(G) leading to holiness. ²⁰ When you were slaves to sin,^(H) you were free from the control of righteousness.^{(I) 21} What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!^{(J) 22} But now that you have been set free from sin^(K) and have become slaves of God,^(L) the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.^(M)
