The Resurrection

20 ^(A)Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that ^(B)the stone had been taken away from the tomb. ² So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, ^(C)the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and ^(D)we do not know where they have laid him.” ^3 (E)So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. ⁴ Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. ⁵ And stooping to look in, he saw ^(F)the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. ⁶ Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, ⁷ and ^(G)the face cloth, which had been on Jesus'^[a] head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. ⁸ Then the other disciple, ^(H)who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; ⁹ for as yet ^(I)they did not understand the Scripture, ^(J)that he must rise from the dead. ¹⁰ Then the disciples went back to their homes.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, ^(A)“I am the resurrection and ^(B)the life.^[a] Whoever believes in me, ^(C)though he die, ^(D)yet shall he live, ²⁶ and everyone who lives and believes in me ^(E)shall never die. Do you believe this?”

^25 (A)who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised ^(B)for our justification.

^18 (A)having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is ^(B)the hope to which he has called you, what are ^(C)the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, ¹⁹ and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, ^(D)according to the working of ^(E)his great might ²⁰ that he worked in Christ ^(F)when he raised him from the dead and ^(G)seated him at his right hand ^(H)in the heavenly places, ^21 (I)far above ^(J)all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above ^(K)every name that is named, not only in ^(L)this age but also in the one to come.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

¹¹ But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. ¹² And ^(A)she saw ^(B)two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. ¹³ They said to her, ^(C)“Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, ^(D)“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” ¹⁴ Having said this, she turned around and ^(E)saw Jesus standing, ^(F)but she did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵ Jesus said to her, ^(G)“Woman, why are you weeping? ^(H)Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be ^(I)the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” ¹⁶ Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic,^{[a] (J)}“Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). ¹⁷ Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to ^(K)my brothers and say to them, ^(L)‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to ^(M)my God and your God.’” ¹⁸ Mary Magdalene ^(N)went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

I Am the Good Shepherd

10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. ² But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. ³ To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. ⁴ When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. ^5 (A)A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

^19 (A)On the evening ^(B)of that day, the first day of the week, ^(C)the doors being locked where the disciples were ^(D)for fear of the Jews,^[a] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ^(E)“Peace be with you.” ²⁰ When he had said this, ^(F)he showed them his hands and his side. Then ^(G)the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As ^(H)the Father has sent me, ^(I)even so I am sending you.” ²² And when he had said this, he ^(J)breathed on them and said to them, ^(K)“Receive the Holy Spirit. ^23 (L)If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

⁴⁰ And when he had said this, ^(A)he showed them his hands and his feet. ⁴¹ And while they still disbelieved ^(B)for joy and were marveling, ^(C)he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” ⁴² They gave him a piece of broiled fish,^{[a] 43} and he took it and ate before them.

^3 (A)He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
