²² If I had not come and spoken to them, ^(A)they would not have been guilty of sin,^[a] but now they have no excuse for their sin.

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, ^(A)you would have no guilt;^[a] but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

^17 (A)So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

²⁰ For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, ^(A)have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,^[a] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

^30 (A)The times of ignorance ^(B)God overlooked, but ^(C)now he ^(D)commands all people everywhere to repent,

^48 (A)The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; ^(B)the word that I have spoken will judge him ^(C)on the last day.

^31 (A)And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for ^(B)with lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain. ³² And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and ^(C)plays^[a] well on an instrument, for ^(D)they hear what you say, but they will not do it. ^33 (E)When this comes—and come it will!—^(F)then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

⁴ For it is impossible, in the case of those ^(A)who have once been enlightened, who have tasted ^(B)the heavenly gift, and ^(C)have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and ^(D)have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, ⁶ and ^(E)then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since ^(F)they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. ⁷ For ^(G)land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. ⁸ But ^(H)if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, ^(I)and its end is to be burned.

^18 (A)Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not ^(B)believed in the name of the only Son of God. ^19 (C)And this is the judgment: ^(D)the light has come into the world, and ^(E)people loved the darkness rather than the light because ^(F)their works were evil. ^20 (G)For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, ^(H)lest his works should be exposed. ²¹ But whoever ^(I)does what is true ^(J)comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
