16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another (A)Helper,[a] to be with you forever, 17 even (B)the Spirit of truth, (C)whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and (D)will be[b] in you.

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (E)I will come to you. 19 (F)Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but (G)you will see me. (H)Because I live, you also will live. 20 (I)In that day you will know that (J)I am in my Father, and (K)you in me, and (L)I in you. 21 (M)Whoever has my commandments and (N)keeps them, he it is who loves me. And (O)he who loves me (P)will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and (Q)manifest myself to him.” 22 (R)Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it (S)that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, (T)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and (U)we will come to him and (V)make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And (W)the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the (X)Helper, the Holy Spirit, (Y)whom the Father will send in my name, (Z)he will teach you all things and (AA)bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 (AB)Peace I leave with you; (AC)my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. (AD)Let not your hearts be troubled, neither (AE)let them be afraid. 28 (AF)You heard me say to you, (AG)‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I (AH)am going to the Father, for (AI)the Father is greater than I. 29 And (AJ)now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.

I Am the True Vine

15 “I am the (A)true vine, and my Father is (B)the vinedresser. (C)Every branch in me that does not bear fruit (D)he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, (E)that it may bear more fruit. Already (F)you are clean (G)because of the word that I have spoken to you. (H)Abide (I)in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; (J)you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that (K)bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me (L)he is thrown away like a branch and withers; (M)and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If (N)you abide in me, and my words abide in you, (O)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (P)By this my Father is glorified, that you (Q)bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. (R)As the Father has loved me, (S)so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 (T)If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as (U)I have kept (V)my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, (W)that my joy may be in you, and that (X)your joy may be full.

12 I wish (A)those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. (B)Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love (C)serve one another. 14 For (D)the whole law is fulfilled in one word: (E)“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you (F)bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

Keep in Step with the Spirit

16 But I say, (G)walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify (H)the desires of the flesh. 17 For (I)the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, (J)to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are (K)led by the Spirit, (L)you are not under the law. 19 Now (M)the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, (N)divisions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that (O)those who do[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But (P)the fruit of the Spirit is (Q)love, joy, peace, patience, (R)kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 (S)gentleness, (T)self-control; (U)against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus (V)have crucified the flesh with its (W)passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, (X)let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 (Y)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
