John 13:18-14:4

^18 (A)I am not speaking of all of you; I know ^(B)whom I have chosen. But ^(C)the Scripture will be fulfilled,^{[a] (D)}‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ ^19 (E)I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. ²⁰ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(F)whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

One of You Will Betray Me

²¹ After saying these things, ^(G)Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, ^(H)“Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(I)one of you will betray me.” ^22 (J)The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. ^23 (K)One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table ^(L)at Jesus' side,^{[b] 24} so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus^[c] of whom he was speaking. ^25 (M)So that disciple, ^(N)leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” ²⁶ Jesus answered, ^(O)“It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread ^(P)when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, ^(Q)he gave it to Judas, ^(R)the son of Simon Iscariot. ²⁷ Then after he had taken the morsel, ^(S)Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, ^(T)“What you are going to do, do quickly.” ²⁸ Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. ²⁹ Some thought that, ^(U)because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need ^(V)for the feast,” or that he should ^(W)give something to the poor. ³⁰ So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. ^(X)And it was night.

A New Commandment

³¹ When he had gone out, Jesus said, ^(Y)“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and ^(Z)God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in him, ^(AA)God will also glorify him in himself, and ^(AB)glorify him at once. ³³ Little children, ^(AC)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just ^(AD)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ ^34 (AE)A new commandment ^(AF)I give to you, ^(AG)that you love one another: ^(AH)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. ^35 (AI)By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” ^(AJ)Jesus answered him, “Where I am going ^(AK)you cannot follow me now, ^(AL)but you will follow afterward.” ^37 (AM)Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” ³⁸ Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(AN)the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

14 ^(AO)“Let not your hearts be troubled. ^(AP)Believe in God;^[d] believe also in me. ² In ^(AQ)my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that ^(AR)I go to prepare a place for you?^{[e] 3} And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you ^(AS)to myself, that ^(AT)where I am you may be also. ⁴ And you know the way to where I am going.”^[f]
