¹⁶ From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.^[a](A)

¹⁹ For in him all the fullness of God^[a] was pleased to dwell,

² through whom we have obtained access^[a] to this grace in which we stand, and we^[b] boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.^(A)

⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ^[a]—by grace you have been saved— ⁶ and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places^[b] in Christ Jesus, ⁷ so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— ⁹ not the result of works, so that no one may boast. ¹⁰ For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we may walk in them.^(A)

⁷ But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift.^{(A) 8} Therefore it is said,

⁹ (When it says, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended^[b] into the lower parts of the earth?^{[c] 10} He who descended is the same one who ascended far above all the heavens, so that he might fill all things.) ¹¹ He himself granted that some are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers^{(C) 12} to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,^{(D) 13} until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity,^[d] to the measure of the full stature of Christ.^(E)

⁹ For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, ¹⁰ and you have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.^(A)

²³ which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.^(A)

¹⁹ and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.^(A)

¹⁷ If, because of the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
