Jesus Is Buried
38 (A)Now after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but (B)secretly because of his (C)fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. 39 (D)And Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, (E)bringing a [a]mixture of (F)myrrh and aloes, weighing about [b]one (G)hundred litras. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and (H)bound it in (I)linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a (J)new tomb (K)in which no one had yet been laid. 42 Therefore because of the Jewish day of (L)Preparation, since the tomb was (M)nearby, they laid Jesus there.

Jesus’s Burial
38 After(A) this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus—but secretly because of his fear of the Jews—asked Pilate that he might remove Jesus’s body.(B) Pilate gave him permission; so he came and took his body away. 39 Nicodemus(C) (who had previously come to him at night) also came, bringing a mixture of about seventy-five pounds[a] of myrrh and aloes. 40 They took Jesus’s body(D) and wrapped it in linen cloths(E) with the fragrant spices, according to the burial(F) custom of the Jews. 41 There was a garden in the place where he was crucified. A new tomb was in the garden; no one had yet been placed in it. 42 They placed Jesus there because of the Jewish day of preparation and since the tomb was nearby.

The Burial of Jesus(A)
38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders.(B) With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus,(C) the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[a] 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen.(D) This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.(E) 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation(F) and since the tomb was nearby,(G) they laid Jesus there.
