² My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there^(A) to prepare a place for you?

Present Suffering and Future Glory

¹⁸ I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.^(A)

¹⁷ After that, we who are still alive and are left^(A) will be caught up together with them in the clouds^(B) to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord^(C) forever.

³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.^(A) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.^{(B) 4} ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.^(C) There will be no more death’^[a](D) or mourning or crying or pain,^(E) for the old order of things has passed away.”^(F)

⁵ He who was seated on the throne^(G) said, “I am making everything new!”^(H) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”^(I)

⁶ He said to me: “It is done.^(J) I am the Alpha and the Omega,^(K) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost^(L) from the spring of the water of life.^{(M) 7} Those who are victorious^(N) will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.^{(O) 8} But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars^(P)—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.^(Q) This is the second death.”^(R)

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river^(A) of the water of life,^(B) as clear as crystal,^(C) flowing^(D) from the throne of God and of the Lamb ² down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,^(E) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.^{(F) 3} No longer will there be any curse.^(G) The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.^{(H) 4} They will see his face,^(I) and his name will be on their foreheads.^{(J) 5} There will be no more night.^(K) They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.^(L) And they will reign for ever and ever.^(M)

John and the Angel

⁶ The angel said to me,^(N) “These words are trustworthy and true.^(O) The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets,^(P) sent his angel^(Q) to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”

¹⁴ “Blessed are those who wash their robes,^(A) that they may have the right to the tree of life^(B) and may go through the gates^(C) into the city.^{(D) 15} Outside^(E) are the dogs,^(F) those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

¹⁶ “I, Jesus,^(G) have sent my angel^(H) to give you^[a] this testimony for the churches.^(I) I am the Root^(J) and the Offspring of David,^(K) and the bright Morning Star.”^(L)
