27 (A)My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 (B)My Father, (C)who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 (D)I and My Father are one.”

  1. John 10:29 Many early manuscripts What my Father has given me is greater than all

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted (A)the heavenly gift, and (B)have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, [a]if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, (C)since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, (D)receives blessing from God; (E)but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

A Better Estimate

But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. 10 For (F)God is not unjust to forget (G)your work and [b]labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have (H)ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence (I)to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become [c]sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience (J)inherit the promises.

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened,(A) who have tasted the heavenly gift,(B) who have shared in the Holy Spirit,(C) who have tasted the goodness(D) of the word of God(E) and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen[a] away, to be brought back to repentance.(F) To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God(G) all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed.(H) In the end it will be burned.

Even though we speak like this, dear friends,(I) we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. 10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.(J) 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope(K) for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate(L) those who through faith and patience(M) inherit what has been promised.(N)
