Jezus is de Weg en de Waarheid en het Leven
14 Jezus zei: "Wees niet verdrietig. Jullie geloven in God. Geloof nu ook in Mij. 2 In het huis van mijn Vader is plaats voor heel veel mensen. Als dat niet zo was, zou Ik het jullie hebben gezegd. Ik ga daarheen om alles voor jullie klaar te maken. Daarna kunnen jullie ook komen. 3 Wanneer Ik ben weggegaan en alles voor jullie heb klaargemaakt, kom Ik terug om jullie op te halen. Dan zullen jullie zijn waar Ik ben. 4 Jullie weten waar Ik naartoe ga, en jullie weten de weg daarheen." 5 Tomas zei tegen Hem: "Heer, we weten niet waar U naartoe gaat. Hoe kunnen we dan de weg weten?" 6 Jezus zei tegen hem: "IK BEN[a] de weg en de waarheid en het leven. Alleen door Mij kun je bij de Vader komen. 7 Als jullie Mij kenden, zouden jullie ook mijn Vader kennen. Vanaf nu kennen jullie Hem en zien jullie Hem."
8 Filippus zei tegen Hem: "Heer, laat ons de Vader zien. Dan zijn we tevreden." 9 Jezus zei tegen hem: "Nu ben Ik al zó lang bij jullie, Filippus, en ken je Mij nu nog niet? Als je Mij hebt gezien, héb je de Vader gezien. Waarom zeg je dan: 'Laat ons de Vader zien'? 10 Geloof je dan niet dat Ik één ben met de Vader en dat de Vader één is met Mij? Wat Ik tegen jullie zeg, zijn niet mijn eigen woorden. De Vader, die één met Mij is, doet zijn werk door Mij heen. 11 Geloof Mij als Ik zeg dat Ik één ben met de Vader en dat de Vader één is met Mij. En als je niet gelooft wat Ik zég, geloof Mij dan om wat je Mij ziet dóen. 12 Luister goed! Ik zeg jullie: iedereen die in Mij gelooft, zal dezelfde dingen doen als Ik. Hij zal zelfs nog geweldiger dingen doen. 13 Want Ik ga naar de Vader en alles wat jullie aan de Vader vragen omdat jullie bij Mij horen, zal Ik doen. Want daardoor zal te zien zijn hoe machtig de Vader in Mij is. 14 Als jullie om iets vragen omdat jullie bij Mij horen, zal Ik het doen."
Jezus belooft dat de Heilige Geest zal komen
15 Jezus zei: "Als jullie echt van Mij houden, doe dan ook wat Ik zeg. 16 En Ik zal aan de Vader om een andere Helper voor jullie vragen. Hij zal voor eeuwig bij jullie blijven. 17 Hij is de Geest van de waarheid. De mensen die niet in Mij geloven, kunnen Hem niet ontvangen. Want ze zien Hem niet en kennen Hem niet. Maar jullie kennen Hem, want Hij blijft bij jullie en Hij zal in jullie zijn.
18 Ik zal jullie niet als weeskinderen achterlaten. Ik kom naar jullie toe. 19 Nog even en dan zullen de mensen die niet in Mij geloven, Mij niet meer zien. Maar jullie zullen Mij zien. Want Ik leef en jullie zullen leven. 20 Dan zullen jullie weten dat Ik één ben met mijn Vader en dat jullie één zijn met Mij en dat Ik één ben met jullie.
21 Je houdt pas echt van Mij als je niet alleen wéét wat Ik zeg, maar ook dóet wat Ik zeg. En de Vader zal van elk mens houden die van Mij houdt. En Ik zal van hem houden en ervoor zorgen dat hij Mij echt leert kennen." 22 Judas, niet Judas Iskariot maar een andere Judas, zei tegen Hem: "Heer, hoe komt het dat U ervoor zal zorgen dat wíj U wel echt zullen leren kennen, maar de andere mensen niet?" 23 Jezus antwoordde hem: "Iemand die van Mij houdt, zal doen wat Ik zeg. Mijn Vader zal van hem houden en Wij zullen bij hem komen en in hem wonen. 24 Iemand die niet van Mij houdt, doet niet wat Ik zeg. En wat Ik zeg, bedenk Ik niet zelf. Ik moet het zeggen van mijn Vader die Mij gestuurd heeft.
25 Ik heb jullie dit gezegd terwijl Ik nog bij jullie ben. 26 Omdat jullie bij Mij horen, zal de Vader jullie straks de Helper sturen. Hij is de Heilige Geest. Hij zal jullie alles leren en alles helpen herinneren wat Ik tegen jullie heb gezegd.
27 Ik geef jullie vrede. Ik geef jullie míjn vrede. De vrede die Ik jullie geef, is een ander soort vrede dan de vrede van de wereld. Wees niet bang of verdrietig. 28 Want jullie hebben gehoord dat Ik tegen jullie heb gezegd: 'Ik ga weg en Ik kom bij jullie terug.' Als jullie echt van Mij hielden, zouden jullie blij zijn dat Ik naar de Vader ga. Want de Vader is belangrijker dan Ik. 29 Ik heb het jullie nu gezegd, vóórdat het gebeurt. Dan zullen jullie Mij geloven wanneer het gebeurt. 30 Ik kan jullie niet veel meer vertellen, want de heerser van deze wereld komt en heeft niets aan Mij. 31 Maar de wereld moet weten dat Ik van de Vader houd en precies doe wat Hij Mij zegt.
Kom, laten we gaan."

- Johannes 14:6 Jezus gebruikt hier de woorden IK BEN. In het Grieks staat daar 'ego eimi,' wat veel nadrukkelijker is dan de gewone manier om 'ik ben...' te zeggen. In het Oude Testament maakt God Zich met de naam IK BEN aan Mozes bekend. Lees Exodus 3:14. Door deze naam te gebruiken geeft Jezus dus aan dat Hijzelf God is. Vergelijk met Matteüs 14:27.

14 – Пусть ничто не тревожит ваши сердца. Верьте во Всевышнего и верьте в Меня. 2 В доме Моего Отца много комнат, и если бы это было не так, то разве Я сказал бы вам: «Я иду приготовить место для вас»?[a] 3 И если сейчас Я пойду и приготовлю вам место, то после вернусь и возьму вас к Себе, чтобы и вы были там, где Я. 4 Вы знаете путь туда, куда Я иду.
5 Фома сказал Ему:
– Повелитель, мы не знаем, куда Ты идёшь, как же мы можем знать туда путь?
6 Исо ответил:
– Я есть путь, истина и жизнь. Никто не приходит к Отцу, как только через Меня. 7 Если бы вы действительно знали Меня, вы бы знали и Моего Отца. И сейчас вы знаете Его и видели Его.
8 Филипп сказал:
– Повелитель, покажи нам Отца, и этого нам будет достаточно.
9 Исо ответил:
– Неужели ты не знаешь Меня, Филипп? Ведь Я уже столько времени среди вас! Кто видел Меня, тот видел и Отца. Как ты можешь говорить: «Покажи нам Отца»? 10 Неужели вы не верите, что Я в Отце и Отец во Мне? Слова, которые Я вам говорю, не Мои слова. Это Отец, Который живёт во Мне, совершает Свою работу. 11 Верьте Мне, когда Я говорю, что Я в Отце и Отец во Мне, или верьте, по крайней мере, по Моим делам. 12 Говорю вам истину, кто верит в Меня, тот сможет делать то, что Я делаю. Он сможет сделать ещё больше, потому что Я возвращаюсь к Отцу. 13 Я сделаю всё, чего бы вы ни попросили во имя Моё, чтобы Отец был прославлен через Сына. 14 Чего ни попросите во имя Моё, Я то сделаю.
Исо Масех обещает Святого Духа
15 – Если вы любите Меня, то будете исполнять Мои повеления. 16 Я попрошу Отца, и Он даст вам другого Заступника[b], Который будет с вами всегда, – 17 Духа истины. Мир не может принять Его, потому что не видит Его и не знает Его. Но вы знаете Его, потому что Он живёт с вами и в вас будет. 18 Я не оставлю вас сиротами, Я вернусь к вам[c]. 19 Ещё недолго, и мир Меня больше не увидит, но вы будете видеть Меня. Я живу, и поэтому вы тоже будете жить. 20 В тот день вы узнаете, что Я в Моём Отце, а вы во Мне, и Я в вас. 21 Кто хранит Мои повеления и исполняет их, тот и любит Меня. Того, кто любит Меня, полюбит Мой Отец, и Я тоже буду любить его и открою Себя ему.
22 Тогда Иуда (не Искариот) сказал:
– Повелитель, но почему Ты хочешь открыть Себя только нам, а не всему миру?
23 Исо ответил:
– Кто любит Меня, тот будет соблюдать слово Моё, и того полюбит Мой Отец, к тому Мы придём и будем жить у него. 24 Тот, кто Меня не любит, не будет и соблюдать слов Моих. Слово же, которое вы слышите, – не Моё, оно принадлежит пославшему Меня Отцу.
25 Всё это Я сказал вам, пока ещё нахожусь с вами. 26 Заступник же, Святой Дух, Которого Отец пошлёт вам во имя Моё, научит вас всему и напомнит вам всё, о чём Я вам говорил. 27 Я оставляю вам мир. Мой мир Я даю вам. Я даю вам не так, как даёт этот грешный мир. Пусть ничто не тревожит ваше сердце. Не бойтесь! 28 Вы слышали, что Я сказал вам: «Я ухожу от вас, но Я опять возвращусь к вам». Если бы вы любили Меня, то радовались бы тому, что Я иду к Отцу, потому что Отец больше Меня. 29 Говорю вам обо всём заранее, чтобы, когда это произойдёт, вы поверили Мне. 30 Больше Я уже не буду говорить вам, потому что приближается сатана, князь этого греховного мира. У него нет власти надо Мной, 31 но мир должен узнать, что Я люблю Отца и что Я делаю то, что Отец Мне повелел.

Jesus Comforts His Disciples
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.(A) You believe(B) in God[a];(C) believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there(D) to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back(E) and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.(F) 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas(G) said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am(H) the way(I) and the truth(J) and the life.(K) No one comes to the Father except through me.(L) 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well.(M) From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip(N) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.(O) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?(P) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.(Q) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.(R) 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes(S) in me will do the works I have been doing,(T) and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask(U) in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.(V) 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate(W) to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.(X) The world cannot accept him,(Y) because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans;(Z) I will come to you.(AA) 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.(AB) Because I live, you also will live.(AC) 20 On that day(AD) you will realize that I am in my Father,(AE) and you are in me, and I am in you.(AF) 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.(AG) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,(AH) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
22 Then Judas(AI) (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”(AJ)
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.(AK) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.(AL) 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.(AM)
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate,(AN) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,(AO) will teach you all things(AP) and will remind you of everything I have said to you.(AQ) 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.(AR) I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled(AS) and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’(AT) If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father,(AU) for the Father is greater than I.(AV) 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.(AW) 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world(AX) is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.(AY)

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

The Way, the Truth, and the Life

The Father Revealed
7 (K)“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? (L)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (M)I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you (N)I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, (O)or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
The Answered Prayer
12 (P)“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 (Q)And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be (R)glorified in the Son. 14 If you [c]ask anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises Another Helper
15 (S)“If you love Me, [d]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and (T)He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 (U)the Spirit of truth, (V)whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you (W)and will be in you. 18 (X)I will not leave you orphans; (Y)I will come to you.
Indwelling of the Father and the Son
19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but (Z)you will see Me. (AA)Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that (AB)I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 (AC)He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and [f]manifest Myself to him.”
22 (AD)Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, (AE)and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and (AF)the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
The Gift of His Peace
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But (AG)the [g]Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will (AH)send in My name, (AI)He will teach you all things, and bring to your (AJ)remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 (AK)Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me (AL)say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because [h]I said, (AM)‘I am going to the Father,’ for (AN)My Father is greater than I.
29 “And (AO)now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, (AP)for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has (AQ)nothing in Me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and (AR)as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.
