(A)I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And (B)I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land,

For the Lord is enraged against all the nations,
    and furious against all their host;
    he has (A)devoted them to destruction,[a] has given them over for slaughter.
Their slain shall be cast out,
    and (B)the stench of their corpses shall rise;
    (C)the mountains shall flow with their blood.
(D)All the host of heaven shall rot away,
    and the skies roll up like a scroll.
All their host shall fall,
    as leaves fall from the vine,
    like leaves falling from the fig tree.

For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens;
    behold, it descends for judgment upon (E)Edom,
    upon the people (F)I have devoted to destruction.
The Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood;
    it is gorged with fat,
    with the blood of lambs and goats,
    with the fat of the kidneys of rams.
(G)For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
    a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
(H)Wild oxen shall (I)fall with them,
    and (J)young steers with (K)the mighty bulls.
Their land shall drink its fill of blood,
    and their soil shall be gorged with fat.

(L)For the Lord has a day of vengeance,
    a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.

19 And I saw (A)the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies (B)gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it (C)the false prophet (D)who in its presence[a] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who (E)worshiped its image. These two were (F)thrown alive into the lake of (G)fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword (H)that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and (I)all the birds were gorged with their flesh.

(A)After many days you will be mustered. (B)In the latter years you will go against (C)the land that is restored from war, the land whose people (D)were gathered from many peoples upon (E)the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and (F)now dwell securely, all of them. You will advance, coming on (G)like a storm. You will be (H)like a cloud covering the land, you and all your (I)hordes, and many peoples with you.

10 “Thus says the Lord God: On that day, (J)thoughts will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil scheme 11 and say, ‘I will go up against (K)the land of unwalled villages. I will fall upon (L)the quiet people who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates,’ 12 to seize spoil and carry off plunder, to turn your hand against (M)the waste places that are now inhabited, and (N)the people who were gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, (O)who dwell at the center of the earth. 13 (P)Sheba and (Q)Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all (R)its leaders[a] will say to you, ‘Have you come to seize spoil? Have you assembled your hosts to carry off plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to seize great spoil?’

14 “Therefore, (S)son of man, prophesy, and say to (T)Gog, Thus says the Lord God: On that day when my people Israel are (U)dwelling securely, (V)will you not know it? 15 You will come from your place out of (W)the uttermost parts of the north, you and (X)many peoples with you, (Y)all of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. 16 You will come up against my people Israel, (Z)like a cloud covering the land. (AA)In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, (AB)I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

17 “Thus says the Lord God: Are you (AC)he of whom I spoke in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel, who in those days prophesied for years that I would bring you against them? 18 But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord God, (AD)my wrath will be roused in my anger. 19 For (AE)in my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, On that day (AF)there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 (AG)The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, (AH)shall quake at my presence. And (AI)the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground. 21 (AJ)I will summon a sword against Gog[b] on all my mountains, declares the Lord God. (AK)Every man's sword will be against his brother. 22 With pestilence and bloodshed (AL)I will enter into judgment with him, and (AM)I will rain upon him and (AN)his hordes and the many peoples who are with him (AO)torrential rains and hailstones, (AP)fire and sulfur. 23 So I will show my greatness and my (AQ)holiness and (AR)make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then (AS)they will know that I am the Lord.

The Lord's Day of Vengeance

63 Who is this who comes from (A)Edom,
    in crimsoned garments from (B)Bozrah,
he who is splendid in his apparel,
    (C)marching in the greatness of his strength?
“It is I, speaking in righteousness,
    mighty to save.”

Why is your (D)apparel red,
    and your garments like his (E)who treads in the winepress?

(F)“I have trodden the winepress alone,
    (G)and from the peoples no one was with me;
I trod them in my anger
    and trampled them in my wrath;
their lifeblood[a] spattered on my garments,
    and stained all my apparel.
(H)For the day of vengeance was in my heart,
    and my year of redemption[b] had come.
I looked, but (I)there was no one to help;
    I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold;
so my own arm brought me salvation,
    and my wrath upheld me.
I trampled down the peoples in my anger;
    (J)I made them drunk in my wrath,
    and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

The Lord's Mercy Remembered

I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord,
    the praises of the Lord,
according to all that the Lord has granted us,
    (K)and the great goodness to the house of Israel
that he has granted them according to his compassion,
    according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

  2. Isaiah 63:4 Or the year of my redeemed

(A)Behold, it is coming and it will be brought about, declares the Lord God. That is the day (B)of which I have spoken.

“Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and (C)make fires of the weapons and burn them, shields and bucklers, bow and arrows, (D)clubs[a] and spears; and they will make fires of them for seven years, 10 so that they will not need to take wood out of the field or cut down any out of the forests, for (E)they will make their fires of the weapons. (F)They will seize the spoil of those who despoiled them, and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord God.

11 “On that day I will give to (G)Gog a place for burial in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the sea. It will block the travelers, for there Gog and all his multitude will be buried. It will be called the Valley of (H)Hamon-gog.[b] 12 For (I)seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order (J)to cleanse the land. 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day that (K)I show my glory, declares the Lord God. 14 They will set apart men to travel through the land regularly and bury those travelers remaining on the face of the land, so as (L)to cleanse it. At[c] the end of (M)seven months they will make their search. 15 And when these travel through the land and anyone sees a human bone, then he shall set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of (N)Hamon-gog. 16 (Hamonah[d] is also the name of the city.) Thus shall they cleanse the land.

17 “As for you, (O)son of man, thus says the Lord God: (P)Speak to (Q)the birds of every sort and to (R)all beasts of the field: ‘Assemble and come, gather from all around to (S)the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great sacrificial feast on the mountains of Israel, and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. 18 (T)You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—of rams, of lambs, and of he-goats, of bulls, all of them (U)fat beasts of Bashan. 19 And you shall eat fat till you are filled, and drink blood till you are drunk, at the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you. 20 And you shall be filled at my table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all kinds of warriors,’ declares the Lord God.
