23 Be glad then, you children of Zion,
And (A)rejoice in the Lord your God;
For He has given you the [a]former rain faithfully,
And He (B)will cause the rain to come down for you—
The former rain,
And the latter rain in the first month.
24 The threshing floors shall be full of wheat,
And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.

25 “So I will restore to you the years (C)that the swarming [b]locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.
26 You shall (D)eat in plenty and be satisfied,
And praise the name of the Lord your God,
Who has dealt wondrously with you;
And My people shall never be put to (E)shame.
27 Then you shall know that I am (F)in the midst of Israel:
(G)I am the Lord your God
And there is no other.
My people shall never be put to shame.

God’s Spirit Poured Out

28 “And(H) it shall come to pass afterward
That (I)I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
(J)Your sons and your (K)daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams,
Your young men shall see visions.
29 And also on My (L)menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

30 “And (M)I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.
31 (N)The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
(O)Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
32 And it shall come to pass
That (P)whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be [c]saved.
For (Q)in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be [d]deliverance,
As the Lord has said,
Among (R)the remnant whom the Lord calls.

Jesus Transfigured on the Mount(A)

17 Now (B)after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, [a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

(C)While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (D)“This is My beloved Son, (E)in whom I am well pleased. (F)Hear Him!” (G)And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and (H)touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, (I)“Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming [b]first and will (J)restore all things. 12 (K)But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they (L)did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise (M)the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” 13 (N)Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

12 So, when he had considered this, (A)he came to the house of Mary, the mother of (B)John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together (C)praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. 15 But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, (D)“It is his angel.”

16 Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 But (E)motioning to them with his hand to keep silent, he declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Go, tell these things to James and to the brethren.” And he departed and went to another place.

18 Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small [a]stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. 19 But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death.

And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.

Herod’s Violent Death

20 Now Herod had been very angry with the people of (F)Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus [b]the king’s personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because (G)their country was [c]supplied with food by the king’s country.

21 So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. 22 And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord (H)struck him, because (I)he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and [d]died.

24 But (J)the word of God grew and multiplied.

Barnabas and Saul Appointed

25 And (K)Barnabas and Saul returned [e]from Jerusalem when they had (L)fulfilled their ministry, and they also (M)took with them (N)John whose surname was Mark.
