32 And these three men cease from answering Job, for he [is] righteous in his own eyes,

and burn doth the anger of Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram; against Job hath his anger burned, because of his justifying himself more than God;

and against his three friends hath his anger burned, because that they have not found an answer, and condemn Job.

And Elihu hath waited earnestly beside Job with words, for they are older than he in days.

And Elihu seeth that there is no answer in the mouth of the three men, and his anger burneth.

And Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answereth and saith: -- Young I [am] in days, and ye [are] age Therefore I have feared, And am afraid of shewing you my opinion.

I said: Days do speak, And multitude of years teach wisdom.

Surely a spirit is in man, And the breath of the Mighty One Doth cause them to understand.

The multitude are not wise, Nor do the aged understand judgment.

10 Therefore I have said: Hearken to me, I do shew my opinion -- even I.

11 Lo, I have waited for your words, I give ear unto your reasons, Till ye search out sayings.

12 And unto you I attend, And lo, there is no reasoner for Job, [Or] answerer of his sayings among you.

13 Lest ye say, We have found wisdom, God doth thrust him away, not man.

14 And he hath not set in array words for me, And with your sayings I do not answer him.

15 (They have broken down, They have not answered again, They removed from themselves words.

16 And I have waited, but they do not speak, For they have stood still, They have not answered any more.)

17 I answer, even I -- my share, I shew my opinion -- even I.

18 For I have been full of words, Distressed me hath the spirit of my breast,

19 Lo, my breast [is] as wine not opened, Like new bottles it is broken up.

20 I speak, and there is refreshment to me, I open my lips and answer.

21 Let me not, I pray you, accept the face of any, Nor unto man give flattering titles,

22 For I have not known to give flattering titles, In a little doth my Maker take me away.

Elihu nastavlja raspravu

»Ja sam mlad po godinama, a vi ste stari;
    zato sam se bojažljivo susprezao da vam kažem svoje mišljenje.
Mislio sam: ‘Neka starost govori,
    neka mnoge godine pokažu mudrost.’
Ali čovjeku pamet daje duh,
    dah Svemoćnoga daje mu razum.
Nisu samo dugovječni mudri,
    niti samo stari znaju što je pravda.

10 Stoga, tražim da me saslušate,
    da i ja izložim svoje znanje.
11 Čekao sam dok ste govorili,
    slušao kako rasuđujete.
    Dok ste tražili prave riječi,
12 posvetio sam vam svu svoju pažnju.
    No nijedan od vas nije opovrgnuo Jobove riječi,
    niti odgovorio na njegove tvrdnje.
13 Nemojte reći da ste našli mudrost.
    Joba treba pobiti Bog, a ne čovjek.
14 Job je raspravljao s vama
    i vi ste rekli što ste imali,
    a ja ću sada reći svoje.

15 Jobe, ovi se ljudi boje dalje govoriti,
    ponestalo im je riječi.
16 Da još čekam zato što šute,
    zato što stoje i ništa ne odgovaraju?
17 I ja ću reći svoje,
    iznijet ću svoje znanje.
18 Jer, imam mnogo toga reći,
    duh me iznutra na to tjera.
19 Utroba mi je kao vino što se ne odzračuje,
    kao nova mješina koja će se rasprsnuti.
20 Govorit ću i ja da nađem olakšanje,
    otvorit ću usta i odgovoriti.
21 Ni prema kome neću biti pristran,
    niti ću bilo kome laskati.
22 Jer, da sam vičan laskanju,
    moj Stvoritelj brzo bi me kaznio.

Elihu Contradicts Job’s Friends

32 So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was (A)righteous in his own eyes. Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel the (B)Buzite, of the family of Ram, was aroused against Job; his wrath was aroused because he (C)justified himself rather than God. Also against his three friends his wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited [a]to speak to Job. When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was aroused.

So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said:

“I am (D)young in years, and you are very old;
Therefore I was afraid,
And dared not declare my opinion to you.
I said, [b]‘Age should speak,
And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’
But there is a spirit in man,
And (E)the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.
(F)Great[c] men are not always wise,
Nor do the aged always understand justice.

10 “Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me,
I also will declare my opinion.’
11 Indeed I waited for your words,
I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out what to say.
12 I paid close attention to you;
And surely not one of you convinced Job,
Or answered his words—
13 (G)Lest you say,
‘We have found wisdom’;
God will vanquish him, not man.
14 Now he has not [d]directed his words against me;
So I will not answer him with your words.

15 “They are dismayed and answer no more;
Words escape them.
16 And I have waited, because they did not speak,
Because they stood still and answered no more.
17 I also will answer my part,
I too will declare my opinion.
18 For I am full of words;
The spirit within me compels me.
19 Indeed my [e]belly is like wine that has no [f]vent;
It is ready to burst like new wineskins.
20 I will speak, that I may find relief;
I must open my lips and answer.
21 Let me not, I pray, show partiality to anyone;
Nor let me flatter any man.
22 For I do not know how to flatter,
Else my Maker would soon take me (H)away.

32 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.

When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.

And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.

I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.

11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.

12 Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:

13 Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.

14 Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.

15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.

16 When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)

17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.

18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.

19 Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

21 Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.

22 For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.
