Job habla de sus bendiciones pasadas
29 Job siguió hablando:
2 «Añoro los días del pasado,
cuando Dios me cuidaba,
3 cuando iluminaba el camino delante de mí
y yo caminaba seguro en la oscuridad.
4 Cuando yo estaba en la flor de la vida,
la amistad con Dios se sentía en mi hogar.
5 El Todopoderoso todavía estaba conmigo,
y mis hijos me rodeaban.
6 Mis pasos se bañaban en crema
y las rocas me derramaban aceite de oliva.
7 »¡Qué tiempos aquellos cuando iba a las puertas de la ciudad
y ocupaba mi lugar entre los líderes reconocidos!
8 Los jóvenes me daban paso cuando me veían,
e incluso los ancianos se ponían de pie en señal de respeto cuando yo llegaba.
9 Los príncipes guardaban silencio
y se cubrían la boca con las manos.
10 Las más altas autoridades de la ciudad se quedaban calladas,
y refrenaban la lengua en señal de respeto.

los que me veían hablaban bien de mí.

14 Siempre me comportaba con honradez;
la rectitud me cubría como un manto
y usaba la justicia como un turbante.
15 Yo era los ojos de los ciegos
y los pies de los cojos.
16 Era un padre para los pobres
y ayudaba a los extranjeros en necesidad.
17 Rompía la cara de los opresores incrédulos
y arrancaba a sus víctimas de entre sus dientes.
18 »Yo pensaba: “Ciertamente moriré rodeado de mi familia
después de una larga y buena vida.[a]
19 Pues soy como un árbol con raíces que llegan al agua,
con ramas que se refrescan con el rocío.
20 Todo el tiempo me rinden nuevos honores
y mi fuerza se renueva continuamente”.
21 »Todos escuchaban mis consejos;
estaban en silencio esperando que yo hablara.
22 Y después que hablaba, no tenían nada que agregar
porque mi consejo les satisfacía.
23 Anhelaban mis palabras como la gente anhela la lluvia;
las bebían como a la lluvia refrescante de primavera.
24 Cuando estaban desanimados, yo les sonreía;
mi mirada de aprobación era preciosa para ellos.
25 Como hace un jefe, yo les decía qué hacer.
Vivía como un rey entre sus tropas
y consolaba a los que estaban de luto.

29 Job further continued his discourse, and said:
2 “Oh, that I were as in months (A)past,
As in the days when God (B)watched over me;
3 (C)When His lamp shone upon my head,
And when by His light I walked through darkness;
4 Just as I was in the days of my prime,
When (D)the friendly counsel of God was over my tent;
5 When the Almighty was yet with me,
When my children were around me;
6 When (E)my steps were bathed with [a]cream,
And (F)the rock poured out rivers of oil for me!
7 “When I went out to the gate by the city,
When I took my seat in the open square,
8 The young men saw me and hid,
And the aged arose and stood;
9 The princes refrained from talking,
And (G)put their hand on their mouth;
10 The voice of nobles was hushed,
And their (H)tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.
11 When the ear heard, then it blessed me,
And when the eye saw, then it approved me;
12 Because (I)I delivered the poor who cried out,
The fatherless and the one who had no helper.
13 The blessing of a perishing man came upon me,
And I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
14 (J)I put on righteousness, and it clothed me;
My justice was like a robe and a turban.
15 I was (K)eyes to the blind,
And I was feet to the lame.
16 I was a father to the poor,
And (L)I searched out the case that I did not know.
17 I broke (M)the fangs of the wicked,
And plucked the victim from his teeth.
18 “Then I said, (N)‘I shall die in my nest,
And multiply my days as the sand.
19 (O)My root is spread out (P)to the waters,
And the dew lies all night on my branch.
20 My glory is fresh within me,
And my (Q)bow is renewed in my hand.’
21 “Men listened to me and waited,
And kept silence for my counsel.
22 After my words they did not speak again,
And my speech settled on them as dew.
23 They waited for me as for the rain,
And they opened their mouth wide as for (R)the spring rain.
24 If I mocked at them, they did not believe it,
And the light of my countenance they did not cast down.
25 I chose the way for them, and sat as chief;
So I dwelt as a king in the army,
As one who comforts mourners.

Jób visszagondol régi boldogságára
29 Jób folytatta beszédét, és ezt mondta:

for the days when God watched over me,(C)
3 when his lamp shone on my head
and by his light I walked through darkness!(D)
4 Oh, for the days when I was in my prime,
when God’s intimate friendship(E) blessed my house,(F)
5 when the Almighty was still with me
and my children(G) were around me,(H)
6 when my path was drenched with cream(I)
and the rock(J) poured out for me streams of olive oil.(K)
7 “When I went to the gate(L) of the city
and took my seat in the public square,
8 the young men saw me and stepped aside(M)
and the old men rose to their feet;(N)
9 the chief men refrained from speaking(O)
and covered their mouths with their hands;(P)
10 the voices of the nobles were hushed,(Q)
and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths.(R)
11 Whoever heard me spoke well of me,
and those who saw me commended me,(S)
12 because I rescued the poor(T) who cried for help,
and the fatherless(U) who had none to assist them.(V)
13 The one who was dying blessed me;(W)
I made the widow’s(X) heart sing.
14 I put on righteousness(Y) as my clothing;

21 “People listened to me expectantly,
waiting in silence for my counsel.(AN)

23 They waited for me as for showers
and drank in my words as the spring rain.(AQ)
24 When I smiled at them, they scarcely believed it;
