Job 20:4-11
New American Standard Bible
4 Do you know this from (A)ancient times,
From the establishment of mankind on earth,
5 That the (B)rejoicing of the wicked is short,
And (C)the joy of the godless momentary?
6 Though his arrogance [a](D)reaches the heavens,
And his head touches the clouds,
7 He (E)perishes forever like his refuse;
Those who have seen him (F)will say, ‘Where is he?’
8 He flies away like a (G)dream, and they cannot find him;
Like a vision of the night he is (H)chased away.
9 The (I)eye which saw him sees him no longer,
And (J)his place no longer beholds him.
10 His (K)sons [b]favor the poor,
And his hands (L)give back his wealth.
11 His (M)bones are full of his youthful strength,
But it lies down with him [c]in the dust.
Job 20:4-11
Common English Bible
4 Do you know this from long ago—
from when humans were placed on earth—
5 that the rejoicing of the wicked is short,
the joy of the godless, brief?
6 Though their height reaches heaven
and their heads touch the clouds,
7 they will perish forever like their dung;
those who saw them will say, “Where are they?”
8 They will disappear like a dream,
and none will find them,
carried away like a nighttime vision.
9 The eye that saw them will do so no more;
they won’t be seen again at home.
10 Their children will repay the poor;
their hands will give back their wealth.
11 Vigor filled their bones
and now sleeps with them in the dust.
