31 情欲をもって女性を見ないようにする。
私は、そう自分の目と契約を結んだ。
2-3 みだらな者に、全能の神が
災いを下すことを知っているからだ。
4 神は私のなすことすべてを見ている。
5 私がうそをつき、人を欺いたことがあるだろうか。
6 もちろん、神は私の潔白をご存じだ。
7-8 私は、神の道を踏みはずしたことも、
目に入るものへの欲望に取りつかれたこともない。
そのほかの罪についても、全く身に覚えがない。
もし少しでもやましいところがあったら、
私が種をまいて育てた作物をほかの者が刈り取り、
私の植えた木がみな根こそぎにされてもいい。
9 私が人の妻を欲しがったことがあるというなら、
10 殺されてもいい。
私の妻が他の人の家に労働者として入り、
あるいは他の人が彼女の夫になってもいい。
11 情欲は恥ずべき罪、罰せられるべき罪過、
12 何もかも焼き尽くす地獄の火だ。
それは、私の植えたものをみな根こそぎにする。
13 少しでも召使たちを
不当にあしらったことがあったなら、
14 神をまともに見ることなどできるわけがない。
神にそのことを問いただされたら、
何も答えようがない。
15 神は私を造り、また召使たちをも造ったからだ。
16 私が貧しい人を傷つけ、
未亡人を泣かせたことがあるだろうか。
17 腹をすかせた孤児に、
食べ物を恵まなかったことがあるだろうか。
18 いつも、孤児を引き取って親身に世話をし、
わが子同様に育てたではないか。
19-20 寒さにこごえている者に着る物を与えず、
その人を暖めるために羊の毛を刈らなかったことが
あるだろうか。
21 だれにも責められないからといって、
孤児の弱みにつけこんだことがあるだろうか。
22 こんなことを一つでもしていたら、
腕がつけ根からもぎ取られ、
肩の骨がはずれてもかまわない。
23 その程度の罰なら、
どんなものより恐ろしい神にさばかれるよりましだ。
威厳ある神を向こうに回したら、
一片の望みもなくなってしまうからだ。
24 私が金銭を頼りにしたことがあるだろうか。
25 財産のあるなしを
幸福の尺度にしたことがあるだろうか。
26 あるいは、空に輝く太陽を見、
銀の道に沿って動く月を見て、
27 心ひそかに魅せられ、
手を合わせて拝んだことがあるだろうか。
28 こんな行為も、裁判にかけて罰せられるべきだ。
私がこんなことをしたのなら、
天の神を否定したことになるからだ。
29 私は、敵が苦しむのを見て喜んだことがあるだろうか。
30 人をのろったり、復讐したりしたことなど一度もない。
31 召使を飢えさせたこともない。
32 見知らぬ人でも追い返したりせず、
だれが来ても気持ちよく迎え入れた。
33 私は、アダムのように罪を隠したことがあるだろうか。
34 群衆におびえ、軽蔑されることを恐れて、
罪を認めようとせず、
人の力になることをためらったことがあるだろうか。
35 私の言い分を聞き、
私の立場を理解してくれる者はいないのか。
だれが何と言おうと、私は正しい。
もし間違っていたら、全能者がそれを指摘すればよい。
敵の起訴状が正当であることを、全能者が認めればよい。
36 私はそれを、冠のように大事にしまっておく。
37 それから、自分が何をしたかを、
包み隠さず神に打ち明け、
堂々と自分の立場を弁護したい。
38-39 もし私の土地が、
そこの産物を盗んだとして私を責めるなら、
あるいは、私が小作人を殺して、
彼らの収穫を奪い取ったことがあるというなら、
40 小麦の代わりにいばらが生え、
大麦の代わりに雑草がはびこるように。」

31 “I made a covenant with my eyes(A)
not to look lustfully at a young woman.(B)
2 For what is our lot(C) from God above,
our heritage from the Almighty on high?(D)
3 Is it not ruin(E) for the wicked,
disaster(F) for those who do wrong?(G)
4 Does he not see my ways(H)
and count my every step?(I)
5 “If I have walked with falsehood
or my foot has hurried after deceit(J)—
6 let God weigh me(K) in honest scales(L)
and he will know that I am blameless(M)—
7 if my steps have turned from the path,(N)
if my heart has been led by my eyes,
or if my hands(O) have been defiled,(P)
8 then may others eat what I have sown,(Q)
and may my crops be uprooted.(R)
9 “If my heart has been enticed(S) by a woman,(T)
or if I have lurked at my neighbor’s door,
10 then may my wife grind(U) another man’s grain,
and may other men sleep with her.(V)
11 For that would have been wicked,(W)
a sin to be judged.(X)
12 It is a fire(Y) that burns to Destruction[a];(Z)
it would have uprooted my harvest.(AA)
13 “If I have denied justice to any of my servants,(AB)
whether male or female,
when they had a grievance against me,(AC)
14 what will I do when God confronts me?(AD)
What will I answer when called to account?(AE)
15 Did not he who made me in the womb make them?(AF)
Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?(AG)
16 “If I have denied the desires of the poor(AH)
or let the eyes of the widow(AI) grow weary,(AJ)
17 if I have kept my bread to myself,
not sharing it with the fatherless(AK)—
18 but from my youth I reared them as a father would,
and from my birth I guided the widow(AL)—
19 if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing,(AM)
or the needy(AN) without garments,
20 and their hearts did not bless me(AO)
for warming them with the fleece(AP) from my sheep,
21 if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,(AQ)
knowing that I had influence in court,(AR)
22 then let my arm fall from the shoulder,
let it be broken off at the joint.(AS)
23 For I dreaded destruction from God,(AT)
and for fear of his splendor(AU) I could not do such things.(AV)
24 “If I have put my trust in gold(AW)
or said to pure gold, ‘You are my security,’(AX)
25 if I have rejoiced over my great wealth,(AY)
the fortune my hands had gained,(AZ)
26 if I have regarded the sun(BA) in its radiance
or the moon(BB) moving in splendor,
27 so that my heart was secretly enticed(BC)
and my hand offered them a kiss of homage,(BD)
28 then these also would be sins to be judged,(BE)
for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.(BF)
29 “If I have rejoiced at my enemy’s misfortune(BG)
or gloated over the trouble that came to him(BH)—
30 I have not allowed my mouth to sin
by invoking a curse against their life(BI)—
31 if those of my household have never said,
‘Who has not been filled with Job’s meat?’(BJ)—
32 but no stranger had to spend the night in the street,
for my door was always open to the traveler(BK)—
33 if I have concealed(BL) my sin as people do,[b]
by hiding(BM) my guilt in my heart
34 because I so feared the crowd(BN)
and so dreaded the contempt of the clans
that I kept silent(BO) and would not go outside—
35 (“Oh, that I had someone to hear me!(BP)
I sign now my defense—let the Almighty answer me;
let my accuser(BQ) put his indictment in writing.
36 Surely I would wear it on my shoulder,(BR)
I would put it on like a crown.(BS)
37 I would give him an account of my every step;(BT)
I would present it to him as to a ruler.(BU))—
38 “if my land cries out against me(BV)
and all its furrows are wet(BW) with tears,
39 if I have devoured its yield without payment(BX)
or broken the spirit of its tenants,(BY)
40 then let briers(BZ) come up instead of wheat
and stinkweed(CA) instead of barley.”

エリフのことば
32 三人の友人は、それ以上ヨブに答えるのをやめました。ヨブが、自分は潔白だと言い張って一歩も譲らなかったからです。 2 このやりとりを聞いていた、ラム族のブズ人、バラクエルの子エリフは腹を立てました。ヨブが、罪を犯したことを認めず、正当な理由があるからこそ神が彼を罰したのだということを認めようとしなかったからです。 3 エリフはまた、ヨブの三人の友人にも腹を立てました。ヨブの議論に満足な受け答えもできないくせに、ヨブを罪人呼ばわりしたからです。 4 エリフは、自分の話す番がくるのを、ずっと待っていました。一番年下だったので、これまで遠慮していたのです。 5 エリフは三人が答えに詰まったのを見ると、このときとばかり、怒りに震えながら、 6 口を開きました。

人を聡明にするのは、人のうちにある神の霊だ。
10 だから、しばらく私の言うことを聞いてもらいたい。
11-12 私はこれまで、じっと皆さんの言い分を聞いてきた。
ところが皆さんは、ヨブさんに罪を認めさせることも、
彼が罪人であることを証明することもできなかった。
13 『人に罪を認めさせるのは神だけだ』などと、
言いわけしないでもらいたい。
14 ヨブさんが初めから私と議論していたら、
私は絶対に、皆さんのような論法では答えなかった。
15-16 だれも答えることばがなくなり、
途方に暮れ、口をつぐんで座り込んでしまった。
それでも私は待ち続けるべきだっただろうか。
17 私も、言うだけは言わせてもらう。
18 さっきから、言いたいことがたくさんあって、
うっぷんがたまっていたのだ。
19 密閉したぶどう酒のたるのように、
私の腹は、今にも張り裂けそうだ。
20 思いきり語って、気分を晴らさせてほしい。
21-22 私は、人を侮辱することになるのを恐れて
手かげんしたりしないし、
だれにもへつらったりしない。
遠慮なく言わせてもらう。
神の罰を受けて死にたくないのだ。

32 So these three men stopped answering Job,(A) because he was righteous in his own eyes.(B) 2 But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite,(C) of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself(D) rather than God.(E) 3 He was also angry with the three friends,(F) because they had found no way to refute Job,(G) and yet had condemned him.[a](H) 4 Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he.(I) 5 But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused.
6 So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said:
“I am young in years,
and you are old;(J)
that is why I was fearful,
not daring to tell you what I know.
7 I thought, ‘Age should speak;
advanced years should teach wisdom.’(K)
8 But it is the spirit[b](L) in a person,
the breath of the Almighty,(M) that gives them understanding.(N)
9 It is not only the old[c] who are wise,(O)
not only the aged(P) who understand what is right.(Q)
10 “Therefore I say: Listen to me;(R)
I too will tell you what I know.(S)
11 I waited while you spoke,
I listened to your reasoning;
while you were searching for words,
12 I gave you my full attention.
But not one of you has proved Job wrong;
none of you has answered his arguments.(T)
13 Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom;(U)
let God, not a man, refute(V) him.’
14 But Job has not marshaled his words against me,(W)
and I will not answer him with your arguments.
15 “They are dismayed and have no more to say;
words have failed them.(X)
16 Must I wait, now that they are silent,
now that they stand there with no reply?
17 I too will have my say;
I too will tell what I know.(Y)
18 For I am full of words,
and the spirit(Z) within me compels me;(AA)
19 inside I am like bottled-up wine,
like new wineskins ready to burst.(AB)
20 I must speak and find relief;
I must open my lips and reply.(AC)
21 I will show no partiality,(AD)
nor will I flatter anyone;(AE)
22 for if I were skilled in flattery,
my Maker(AF) would soon take me away.(AG)

キリストによる自由
5 このように、キリストは私たちを自由の身にしてくださいました。ですから、この自由をしっかりと握っていなさい。もう二度と、律法にがんじがらめになった奴隷とならないよう、細心の注意をはらいなさい。
2 よく聞いてください。これは大切なことなのですから。もしあなたがたが、神の前で正しい者と認められるには、割礼を受け、ユダヤ教のおきてを守りさえすればいいと考えているなら、キリストに救っていただくことはあきらめなさい。 3 もう一度言います。割礼を受けることで神の恵みを手に入れるつもりなら、それ以外の律法も完璧に守るべきです。そうしなければ、死あるのみです。 4 もしあなたがたが、律法によって神への負債を帳消しにするつもりなら、キリストはあなたがたにとって全く無意味な存在です。あなたがたは、神の恵みからすべり落ちてしまったのです。 5 しかし私たちは、キリストの死によってこそ、罪が取り除かれ、神の前で正しい者と認められることを、聖霊の助けによって確信しています。 6 キリストから永遠のいのちをいただいた私たちは、割礼を受けたかどうか、ユダヤ教の儀式を守っているかどうか、心配する必要はありません。私たちに必要なのは、愛によって働く信仰だけです。
7 皆さんは、信仰の道を順調に走っていました。それを妨害したのはだれですか。真理に逆らわせたのはだれですか。 8 もちろん、神のはずはありません。あなたがたをキリストに基づく自由へと招いてくださったのは神なのですから。 9 しかし、あなたがたの中に悪い人が一人でもいるなら、その悪影響は全体に及ぶのです。 10 主はこの点について、あなたがたを私と同じ信仰に立ち返らせてくださるものと確信しています。人を惑わし、かき乱す者には、だれであろうと、神のさばきが下るのです。 11 よりによってこの私が、割礼やユダヤ教のしきたりが、救われるための必要条件だと教えていると言う者がいます。しかし、もしそうなら、私は迫害されることなどないはずではありませんか。そういった教えには、だれも腹を立てませんから。私が今なお迫害されているという事実こそ、私が今も、キリストの十字架を信じる信仰によってのみ救われると教えている証拠なのです。 12 割礼を受けさせて、あなたがたの肉体の一部を切り取りたいと思っている教師たちには、いっそのこと、自分自身をあなたがたから切り離してもらいたいものです。とにかく、手を引いてくれればよいと、私はそればかり願っています。
13 愛する皆さん。あなたがたは自由を手にしているのです。それは、悪を行うための自由ではなく、互いに愛し合い、仕え合うための自由です。 14 律法の全体は、「自分を愛するように他の人を愛しなさい」（レビ19・18）という一つの命令に要約されるからです。 15 もし互いに愛し合わず、いがみ合ったり、非難し合ったりしているなら、結局、共倒れになってしまいます。気をつけなさい。
聖霊に従いなさい
16 あなたがたに勧めます。聖霊の導きに従いなさい。聖霊は、どこへ行くべきか、何をなすべきか教えてくださいます。そうすれば、自分の肉の欲望のおもむくままに走ることはありません。 17 私たちの生まれながらの性質は、聖霊がお命じになることとは正反対の悪を好みます。一方、聖霊の導きに従って歩んでいる時に行いたくなる善は、生まれながらの肉の願望とは正反対のものです。内面のこの二つの力は、どちらも私たちを思いどおりに動かそうと、いつも格闘しています。そして私たちは、この二つの力の板ばさみになって、したいと思うことが自由にできない状態なのです。 18 しかし、本来聖霊に導かれているあなたがたは、もう自分を律法に従わせる必要はありません。
19 生まれながらの悪い性質、つまり肉に従った結果がもたらすものは明らかです。すなわち、汚れた思い、好色、 20 偶像礼拝、心霊術、憎しみ、争い、怒り、利己心、不平、あら捜し、排他主義とそこから出て来るまちがった教え、 21 ねたみ、人殺し、泥酔、遊興、そのような種類のものです。前にも言いましたが、もう一度言いましょう。そのような生活を続ける者は、一人として神の国を相続できません。
22 しかし、聖霊が生活を支配してくださる時、私たちのうちに、次のような実を結びます。愛、喜び、平安、寛容、親切、善意、誠実、 23 柔和、自制です。そこには、律法に反するものは何もありません。 24 キリストに属する者は、生まれながらの自分が持つ肉の欲望を十字架につけてしまったのです。
25 もし私たちが聖霊の力を受けて生きているなら、すべてにわたって、その導きに従おうではありませんか。 26 そうすれば、互いにねたみ合ったり、いがみ合ったりすることはないでしょう。

Freedom in Christ
5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.(A) Stand firm,(B) then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.(C)
2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised,(D) Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.(E) 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law(F) have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.(G) 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.(H) 6 For in Christ Jesus(I) neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value.(J) The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.(K)
7 You were running a good race.(L) Who cut in on you(M) to keep you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.(N) 9 “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”(O) 10 I am confident(P) in the Lord that you will take no other view.(Q) The one who is throwing you into confusion,(R) whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. 11 Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted?(S) In that case the offense(T) of the cross has been abolished. 12 As for those agitators,(U) I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
Life by the Spirit
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free.(V) But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a];(W) rather, serve one another(X) humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[b](Y) 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit,(Z) and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.(AA) 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.(AB) They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want.(AC) 18 But if you are led by the Spirit,(AD) you are not under the law.(AE)
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,(AF) impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.(AG) I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.(AH)
22 But the fruit(AI) of the Spirit is love,(AJ) joy, peace,(AK) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.(AL) Against such things there is no law.(AM) 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh(AN) with its passions and desires.(AO) 25 Since we live by the Spirit,(AP) let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited,(AQ) provoking and envying each other.

6 愛する皆さん。もしだれかがあやまちを犯したら、聖霊によって歩むあなたがたは、やさしく謙遜な気持ちでその人を助け、正しい道に立ち返らせてあげなさい。また、自分自身も悪の道に落ち込まないように気をつけなさい。 2 互いの悩み、苦しみを共に負い、キリストの命令に従いなさい。 3 りっぱな人間である自分が、なにもそこまで身を低くする必要はないと思う人は、自分を偽っているのです。 4 ほんとうに最善を尽くしているかどうか、もう一度、自分を点検しなさい。そうすれば、ほかの人と比較することもなくなるでしょう。 5 人はみな、それぞれ自分の分をわきまえ、自分の分を果たすべきです。
失望せずに祝福を待つ
6 神のことばを教えてくれる人には、報酬を払い、援助しなさい。 7 思い違いをしてはいけません。神を無視することなどできません。人は種をまけば必ずその刈り取りもすることになるのです。 8 自分の欲望を満足させるために種をまく者は、その結果、霊的な滅びと死とを刈り取るはめになります。しかし、聖霊の良い種をまく者は、聖霊が与えてくださる永遠のいのちを刈り取ります。 9 正しい行いをすることに疲れ果ててしまわないようにしましょう。失望せず、あきらめずにいれば、やがて祝福を刈り取る日が来るからです。 10 ですから、機会あるたびに、だれに対しても、特に信仰を持つ人たちには親切にしましょう。
11 この最後のことばは、自筆で書いています。見てください、この大きな字を。 12 何のために、例の教師たち（使徒15・1）が、あなたがたに割礼を受けさせようと図るのかわかりますか。その理由はただ一つです。すなわち、そのようにして評判や人気を得て、迫害を免れたいからです。その迫害とは、キリストの十字架が唯一の救いの道であると認めるなら、必ず受けるものです。 13 そうした、割礼を主張する教師たちは、割礼以外の律法は守ろうとしません。それなのに、あなたがたに割礼を強要するのは、弟子をふやして誇るためなのです。 14 しかし私は、主イエス・キリストの十字架のほかに、誇るものなど何もありません。十字架によって、私は、この世のものすべてに対して興味を失ってしまいました。この世も、私に対する興味をすっかり失ってしまったのです。 15 割礼を受けているかいないかは、今は、全く問題ではありません。大切なのは、私たちがほんとうに別の新しい人に造り変えられているかどうか、ということです。 16 どうか、この原則に従って生きる人々、そして真に神のものとなった人々に、神のあわれみと平安がありますように。
17 もう二度と、こんな問題で論じ合わなくていいようにしたいものです。私の体には、イエスに敵対する者からむち打たれ、傷つけられた跡が残っていますが、それこそ、キリストの奴隷であることのしるしなのですから。

Doing Good to All
6 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit(A) should restore(B) that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.(C) 3 If anyone thinks they are something(D) when they are not, they deceive themselves.(E) 4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone,(F) without comparing themselves to someone else,(G) 5 for each one should carry their own load.(H) 6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.(I)
7 Do not be deceived:(J) God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.(K) 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh,(L) from the flesh will reap destruction;(M) whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.(N) 9 Let us not become weary in doing good,(O) for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.(P) 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good(Q) to all people, especially to those who belong to the family(R) of believers.
Not Circumcision but the New Creation
11 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!(S)
12 Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh(T) are trying to compel you to be circumcised.(U) The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted(V) for the cross of Christ. 13 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law,(W) yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.(X) 14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,(Y) through which[a] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.(Z) 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything;(AA) what counts is the new creation.(AB) 16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule—to[b] the Israel of God.
17 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks(AC) of Jesus.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ(AD) be with your spirit,(AE) brothers and sisters. Amen.
