The Word Became Flesh

1 In the beginning was the Word,^(A) and the Word was with God,^(B) and the Word was God.^(C)

²³ Yet a time is coming and has now come^(A) when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit^(B) and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. ²⁴ God is spirit,^(C) and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

⁶ Jesus answered, “I am^(A) the way^(B) and the truth^(C) and the life.^(D) No one comes to the Father except through me.^{(E) 7} If you really know me, you will know^[a] my Father as well.^(F) From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

⁸ Philip^(G) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

⁹ Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.^(H) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰ Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?^(I) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.^(J) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

¹⁴ Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going.^(A) But you have no idea where I come from^(B) or where I am going. ¹⁵ You judge by human standards;^(C) I pass judgment on no one.^{(D) 16} But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.^(E)
