The Preeminence of Christ

15 (A)He is the image of (B)the invisible God, (C)the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by[a] him all things were created, (D)in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether (E)thrones or (F)dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created (G)through him and for him. 17 And (H)he is before all things, and in him all things (I)hold together. 18 And (J)he is the head of the body, the church. He is (K)the beginning, (L)the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For (M)in him all the (N)fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and (O)through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, (P)making peace (Q)by the blood of his cross.

(A)Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] (B)who, though he was in (C)the form of God, did not count equality with God (D)a thing to be grasped,[b] but (E)emptied himself, by taking the form of a (F)servant,[c] (G)being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by (H)becoming obedient to the point of death, (I)even death on a cross. (J)Therefore (K)God has (L)highly exalted him and bestowed on him (M)the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus (N)every knee should bow, (O)in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and (P)every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is (Q)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Resurrection

28 (A)Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and (B)the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for (C)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. (D)His appearance was like lightning, and (E)his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and (F)became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, (G)as he said. Come, see the place where he[a] lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, (H)he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb (I)with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus (J)met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and (K)took hold of his feet and (L)worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; (M)go and tell (N)my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, (A)he was lifted up, and (B)a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, (C)two (D)men stood by them in (E)white robes, 11 and said, (F)“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, (G)will (H)come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: (A)“And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” And again in this passage he said,

(B)“They shall not enter my rest.”

Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news (C)failed to enter because of disobedience, again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,

(D)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”

For if Joshua had given them rest, God[a] would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also (E)rested from his works as God did from his.

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so (F)that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For (G)the word of God is living and (H)active, (I)sharper than any (J)two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and (K)discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And (L)no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are (M)naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Since then we have (N)a great high priest (O)who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, (P)let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest (Q)who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been (R)tempted as we are, (S)yet without sin. 16 (T)Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
