Gedaliah Murdered

41 ^(A)In the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, one of the chief officers of the king, came with ten men to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at ^(B)Mizpah. As they ^(C)ate bread together there at Mizpah,

⁸ they went to Gedaliah at ^(A)Mizpah—^(B)Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, ^(C)Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, ^(D)Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

⁶ Then Jeremiah went to ^(A)Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at ^(B)Mizpah, and lived with him ^(C)among the people ^(D)who were left in the land.

Warning Against Worldliness

4 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions^[a] are ^(A)at war within you?^{[b] 2} You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask ^(B)wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

^18 (A)I am not speaking of all of you; I know ^(B)whom I have chosen. But ^(C)the Scripture will be fulfilled,^{[a] (D)}‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

^47 (A)While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called ^(B)Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, ⁴⁸ but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

²⁶ Even those who eat his food shall break him. His army shall be ^(A)swept away, and many shall fall down slain. ²⁷ And as for the two kings, their hearts shall be bent on doing evil. They shall speak lies at the same table, but to no avail, for ^(B)the end is yet to be at the time appointed.

^13 (A)And he took one of the royal offspring^{[a] (B)}and made a covenant with him, ^(C)putting him under oath (^(D)the chief men of the land he had taken away),
