They Shall Be My People; I Will Be Their God

³⁶“Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ^(A)‘It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence’: ³⁷^(B)Behold, I will gather them from all the countries ^(C)to which I drove them in ^(D)my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, ^(E)and I will make them dwell in safety. ³⁸^(F)And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. ³⁹^(G)I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, ^(H)for their own good and the good of their children after them. ⁴⁰^(I)I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. ^(J)And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. ⁴¹^(K)I will rejoice in doing them good, ^(L)and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.

The Steadfast Love of the Lord

33 ^(A)Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
    ^(B)Praise befits the upright.
²Give thanks to the Lord with the ^(C)lyre;
    make melody to him with ^(D)the harp of ^(E)ten strings!
³Sing to him ^(F)a new song;
    play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

⁴For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in ^(G)faithfulness.
⁵He ^(H)loves righteousness and justice;
^(I)the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.

⁶By ^(J)the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
and by ^(K)the breath of his mouth all ^(L)their host.
⁷He gathers the waters of the sea as ^(M)a heap;
he ^(N)puts the deeps in storehouses.

⁸Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
⁹For ^(O)he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm.

¹⁰The Lord ^(P)brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
    he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
¹¹^(Q)The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
    the plans of his heart to all generations.
¹²^(R)Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
    the people whom he has ^(S)chosen as his heritage!

¹³The Lord ^(T)looks down from heaven;
    he sees all the children of man;
¹⁴from ^(U)where he sits enthroned he ^(V)looks out
    on all the inhabitants of the earth,
¹⁵he who fashions the hearts of them all
    and observes all their deeds.
¹⁶^(W)The king is not saved by his great army;
    a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
¹⁷^(X)The war horse is a false hope for salvation,
    and by its great might it cannot rescue.

¹⁸Behold, ^(Y)the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
^(Z)on those who hope in his steadfast love,
¹⁹that he may ^(AA)deliver their soul from death
and keep them alive in ^(AB)famine.

²⁰Our soul ^(AC)waits for the Lord;
    he is our ^(AD)help and ^(AE)our shield.
²¹For our heart is ^(AF)glad in him,
    because we ^(AG)trust in his holy name.
²²Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,

The Scroll and the Lamb

5 Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne ^(A)a scroll written within and on the back, ^(B)sealed with seven seals. ²And ^(C)I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” ³And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, ⁴and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. ⁵And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, ^(D)the Lion ^(E)of the tribe of Judah, ^(F)the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

⁶And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw ^(G)a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with ^(H)seven eyes, which are ^(I)the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. ⁷And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. ⁸And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders ^(J)fell down before the Lamb, ^(K)each holding a harp, and ^(L)golden bowls full of incense, ^(M)which are the prayers of the saints. ⁹And they sang ^(N)a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
for ^(O)you were slain, and by your blood ^(P)you ransomed people for God
    from ^(Q)every tribe and language and people and nation,
¹⁰and you have made them ^(R)a kingdom and priests to our God,
    and they shall reign on the earth.”

¹¹Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering ^(S)myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, ¹²saying with a loud voice,

^(T)“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!”

¹³And I heard ^(U)every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

¹⁴And the four living creatures ^(V)said, “Amen!” and the elders ^(W)fell down and worshiped.

John 21:1-14

Jesus Appears to Seven Disciples

21 After this Jesus ^(A)revealed himself ^(B)again to the disciples by ^(C)the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. ²Simon Peter, ^(D)Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of ^(E)Cana in Galilee, ^(F)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. ³Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but ^(G)that night they caught nothing.

⁴Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples ^(H)did not know that it was Jesus. ⁵^(I)Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” ⁶^(J)He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. ⁷That disciple ^(K)whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, ^(L)he put on his outer garment, for he was ^(M)stripped for work, and ^(N)threw himself into the sea. ⁸The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards^[a] off.

⁹When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. ¹⁰Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” ¹¹So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. ¹²Jesus said to them, ^(O)“Come and ^(P)have breakfast.” Now ^(Q)none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. ¹³Jesus came and ^(R)took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. ¹⁴^(S)This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
