18 “Thus says Yahweh,

‘Behold, I will [a](A)return the [b]fortunes of the tents of Jacob
And (B)have compassion on his dwelling places;
And the (C)city will be rebuilt on its ruin,
And the (D)palace will sit on its just place.
19 From them will come forth (E)thanksgiving
And the voice of those who [c](F)celebrate;
And I will (G)multiply them, and they will not decrease;
I will also (H)honor them, and they will not be insignificant.
20 [d]Their children also will be as formerly,
And [e]their congregation shall be (I)established before Me;
And I will punish all [f]their oppressors.
21 And [g]their (J)mighty one shall be one of them,
And [h]their ruler shall come forth from [i]their midst;
And I will (K)bring Him near, and He shall approach Me;
For who would dare to give his heart as security to (L)approach Me?’ declares Yahweh.
22 ‘You shall be (M)My people,
And I will be your God.’”

18 The Lord proclaims:
I will restore Jacob’s tents
    and have pity on their birthplace.
Their city will be rebuilt on its ruins
    and the palace in its rightful place.
19 There will be laughter
    and songs of thanks.
I will add to their numbers
    so they don’t dwindle away.
I will honor them
    so they aren’t humiliated.
20 Their children will thrive as they did long ago,
    and their community will be established before me.
        I will punish their oppressors.
21 They will have their own leader;
    their ruler will come from among them.
I will let him approach me,
    and he will draw near.
Who would dare approach me
    unless I let them come?
        declares the Lord.
22 You will be my people,
    and I will be your God.
