³ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “^(A)Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place.

⁵ For ^(A)if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly ^(B)practice justice between a man and his neighbor,

^8 (A)if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will ^[a](B)relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it.

¹¹ So now then, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am ^(A)fashioning calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh ^(B)turn back, each of you from his evil way, and ^[a]reform your ways and your deeds.”’

^3 (A)Perhaps they will listen and everyone will turn from his evil way, that ^(B)I may repent of the calamity which I am planning to do to them because of the evil of their deeds.’

¹⁵ Also I have sent to you all My ^(A)servants the prophets, sending them ^[a]again and again, saying: ‘^(B)Turn now every man from his evil way and amend your deeds, and ^(C)do not go after other gods to worship them. Then you will ^(D)dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your forefathers; but you have not ^(E)inclined your ear or listened to Me.

^9 (A)Who knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish.”

² He ^(A)prayed to the Lord and said, “Please Lord, was not this ^[a]what I said while I was still in my own country? Therefore ^[b]in order to forestall this I ^(B)fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a ^(C)gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity.
