Word Against Ammon
49 Concerning the sons of (A)Ammon. Thus says Yahweh:
“Does Israel have no sons?
Or has he no one who can take possession?
Why then has [a]Malcam taken possession of Gad
And his people settled in its cities?
2 Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh,
“That I will cause a [b](B)trumpet blast of war to be heard
Against (C)Rabbah of the sons of Ammon;
And it will become a desolate heap,
And her (D)towns will be set on fire.
Then Israel will take (E)possession of his possessors,”
Says Yahweh.
3 “Wail, O (F)Heshbon, for (G)Ai has been destroyed!
Cry out, O daughters of Rabbah,
(H)Gird yourselves with sackcloth and lament,
And rush back and forth inside the walls;
For [c]Malcam will (I)go into exile
Together with his priests and his princes.
4 How (J)boastful you are about the valleys!
Your valley is flowing away,
O (K)faithless daughter
Who trusts in her (L)treasures, saying,
‘(M)Who will come against me?’
5 Behold, I am going to bring (N)dread upon you,”
Declares Lord Yahweh of hosts,
“From all around you;
And each of you will be (O)banished [d]headlong,
With no one to gather the (P)one who flees.
6 But afterward I will [e](Q)return
The [f]fortunes of the sons of Ammon,”
Declares Yahweh.

28 “Now as for you, son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh concerning the sons of Ammon and concerning their (A)reproach,’ and say: ‘A sword, a sword is drawn, polished for the slaughter, to cause it [a]to (B)consume, that it may be like lightning— 29 while they behold for you (C)worthless visions, while they divine lies for you—to place you on the necks of the wicked who are slain, whose day has come, in the (D)time of the iniquity of the end. 30 (E)Return it to its sheath. In the (F)place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you. 31 And I will (G)pour out My indignation on you; I will (H)blow on you with the fire of My fury, and I will give you into the hand of brutal men, (I)craftsmen of destruction. 32 You will be [b](J)fuel for the fire; your blood will be in the midst of the land. You will (K)not be remembered, for I, Yahweh, have spoken.’”

2 “Son of man, set your face toward the (A)sons of Ammon and prophesy against them 3 and say to the sons of Ammon, ‘Hear the word of Lord Yahweh! Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Because you said, ‘(B)Aha!’ against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into exile, 4 therefore, behold, I am going to give you to the (C)sons of the east for a possession, and they will set their encampments among you and make their dwellings among you; they will (D)eat your fruit and drink your milk. 5 I will make (E)Rabbah a pasture for camels and the sons of Ammon a resting place for flocks. Thus you will know that I am Yahweh.” 6 For thus says Lord Yahweh, “Because you have (F)clapped your hands and stamped your feet and (G)were glad with all the scorn of your soul against the land of Israel, 7 therefore, behold, I have (H)stretched out My hand against you, and I will give you for (I)plunder to the nations. And I will (J)cut you off from the peoples and (K)make you perish from the lands; I will destroy you. Thus you will (L)know that I am Yahweh.”

With which they have reproached My people
And (C)magnified themselves against their territory.
9 Therefore, as I live,” declares Yahweh of hosts,
The God of Israel,
“Surely (D)Moab will be like (E)Sodom
And the sons of (F)Ammon like (G)Gomorrah—
A place possessed by nettles and salt pits,
And a perpetual desolation.
The remnant of My people will (H)plunder them,
And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”
