¹⁷ But rather we will certainly ^(A)carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, ^[a]by burning incense to the ^(B)queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, just as ^(C)we ourselves, our fathers, our kings, and our princes did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had ^(D)plenty of ^[b]food and were well off and saw no evil.

⁹ And although he was grieved, the king commanded it to be given because of his oaths, and because of ^[a]his dinner guests.
