3 And the sons of Israel said to them, “(A)Would that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, (B)when we sat by the pots of [a]meat, when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to put this whole assembly to death with hunger.”

She who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For she said, ‘(B)I will go after my lovers,
Who (C)give me my bread and my water,
My wool and my flax, my (D)oil and my drink.’
6 Therefore, behold, I will (E)hedge up [a]her way with (F)thorns,
And I will build [b]a wall against her so that she cannot find her (G)paths.
7 So she will (H)pursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them;
And she will seek them, but will not find them.
Then she will say, ‘(I)I will go, and I will return to my (J)first husband,
For it was (K)better for me then than now!’
8 “Now she does (L)not know that it was (M)I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
And multiplied silver and gold for her,
Which they [c]used for Baal.
9 Therefore, I will (N)take back My grain at [d]harvest time
And My new wine in its season.
I will also deliver My wool and My flax from them
Given to cover her nakedness.
