² “Please ^(A)inquire of the Lord in our behalf, because ^(B)Nebuchadnezzar king of ^(C)Babylon is making war against us; perhaps the Lord will deal with us ^(D)in accordance with all His ^[a]wonderful acts, so that the enemy will withdraw from us.”

³ Yet ^(A)King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and ^(B)the priest Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “^(C)Please pray to the Lord our God in our behalf.”

Zedekiah Seeks an Answer from God

¹⁴ Then King Zedekiah ^(A)sent word and ^[a]had Jeremiah the prophet brought to him at the third entrance that is in the house of the Lord; and the king said to Jeremiah, “I am going to ^(B)ask you something; do not hide anything from me.”

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our ^(A)pleading ^[a]come before you, and ^(B)pray for us to the Lord your God for all this remnant—since we have been left only a ^(C)few out of many, just as your own eyes now see us—
