^33 (A)Gladness and joy have been taken away
    from the fruitful land of Moab;
I have made the wine cease from the winepresses;
    no one treads them with shouts of joy;
    the shouting is not the shout of joy.

^10 (A)For ten acres^[a] of vineyard shall yield but one bath,
    and a ^(B)homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.”^[b]

²² and ^(A)the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters,
    will be heard in you no more,
and a craftsman of any craft
    will be found in you no more,
and ^(B)the sound of the mill
    will be heard in you no more,
²³ and the light of a lamp
    will shine in you no more,
and ^(C)the voice of bridegroom and bride
    will be heard in you no more,
for ^(D)your merchants were the great ones of the earth,
    and all nations were deceived ^(E)by your sorcery.

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off
    before our eyes,
^(A)joy and gladness
    from the house of our God?

¹² The vine dries up;
    ^(A)the fig tree languishes.
Pomegranate, palm, and apple,
    all the trees of the field are dried up,
and ^(B)gladness dries up
    from the children of man.

^13 (C)Put on sackcloth and lament, ^(D)O priests;
    ^(E)wail, O ministers of the altar.
Go in, ^(F)pass the night in sackcloth,
    ^(G)O ministers of my God!
^(H)Because grain offering and drink offering
    are withheld from the house of your God.

^9 (A)Rise up, you women ^(B)who are at ease, hear my voice;
    you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech.
¹⁰ In little more than a year
    you will shudder, you complacent women;
for the grape harvest fails,
    the fruit harvest will not come.
¹¹ Tremble, you women ^(C)who are at ease,
    shudder, you complacent ones;
^(D)strip, and make yourselves bare,
    ^(E)and tie sackcloth around your waist.
^12 (F)Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields,
    for the fruitful vine,
^13 (G)for the soil of my people
    growing up in thorns and briers,
^(H)yes, for all the joyous houses
    in the exultant city.
¹⁴ For the palace is forsaken,
    the populous city deserted;
the hill and the watchtower
    will become dens forever,
^(I)a joy of wild donkeys,
    a pasture of flocks;
