    when he destroys all the gods^(B) of the earth.^(C)
Distant nations will bow down to him,^(D)
    all of them in their own lands.

⁸ Are you better than^(A) Thebes,^(B)
    situated on the Nile,^(C)
    with water around her?
The river was her defense,
    the waters her wall.
⁹ Cush^[a](D) and Egypt were her boundless strength;
    Put^(E) and Libya^(F) were among her allies.

⁹ I will trouble the hearts of many peoples
    when I bring about your destruction among the nations,
    among^[a] lands you have not known.
¹⁰ I will cause many peoples to be appalled at you,
    and their kings will shudder with horror because of you
    when I brandish my sword^(A) before them.
On the day^(B) of your downfall
    each of them will tremble
    every moment for his life.^(C)

“‘The sword^(D) of the king of Babylon^(E)
    will come against you.^(F)
12 I will cause your hordes to fall
    by the swords of mighty men—
    the most ruthless of all nations.^(G)
They will shatter the pride of Egypt,
    and all her hordes will be overthrown.^(H)

“‘I will destroy the idols^(A)
    and put an end to the images in Memphis.^(B)
No longer will there be a prince in Egypt,^(C)
    and I will spread fear throughout the land.
¹⁴ I will lay^(D) waste Upper Egypt,
    set fire to Zoan^(E)
    and inflict punishment on Thebes.^(F)
15 I will pour out my wrath on Pelusium,
    the stronghold of Egypt,
    and wipe out the hordes of Thebes.
¹⁶ I will set fire^(G) to Egypt;
    Pelusium will writhe in agony.
Thebes will be taken by storm;
    Memphis^(H) will be in constant distress.
