² Jeremiah the prophet and said to him, “Please hear our petition and pray^(A) to the Lord your God for this entire remnant.^(B) For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few^(C) are left.

⁷ Perhaps they will bring their petition^(A) before the Lord and will each turn^(B) from their wicked ways, for the anger^(C) and wrath pronounced against this people by the Lord are great.”

²² I will send wild animals^(A) against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few^(B) in number that your roads will be deserted.^(C)

¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins^(A) to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.^(B) The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.^(C)

²⁴ Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me^(A) so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”

⁴ It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule^(A) the living God,^(B) and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard.^(C) Therefore pray^(D) for the remnant^(E) that still survives.”

¹⁹ The people all said to Samuel, “Pray^(A) to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die,^(B) for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.”
