² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Let ^(A)our plea for mercy come before you, and ^(B)pray to the Lord your God for us, for all ^(C)this remnant—^(D)because we are left with but a few, as your eyes see us—

^7 (A)It may be that their plea for mercy will come before the Lord, ^(B)and that every one will turn from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the Lord has pronounced against this people.”

²² And ^(A)I will let loose the wild beasts against you, which shall bereave you of your children and destroy your livestock and make you few in number, so that ^(B)your roads shall be deserted.

¹⁶ Therefore, ^(A)confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, ^(B)that you may be healed. ^(C)The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.^[a]

²⁴ And Simon answered, ^(A)“Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”

How Lonely Sits the City

^4 (A)It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words that the Lord your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for ^(B)the remnant that is left.’”

¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, ^(A)“Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.”
