¹⁹ King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid^(A) of the Jews who have gone over^(B) to the Babylonians, for the Babylonians may hand me over to them and they will mistreat me.”

⁴² Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him.^(A) But because of the Pharisees^(B) they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;^(C)

¹² From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king^(A) opposes Caesar.”

¹³ When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat^(B) at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic^(C) is Gabbatha).

²² All the women^(A) left in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon. Those women will say to you:

⁹ Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard carried into exile to Babylon the people who remained in the city, along with those who had gone over to him,^(A) and the rest of the people.^(B)

⁵ “He is in your hands,”^(A) King Zedekiah answered. “The king can do nothing^(B) to oppose you.”
