21 Therefore (A)deliver up their children to famine;
    give them over to the power of the sword;
let their wives become childless (B)and widowed.
    May their men meet death by pestilence,
    their youths be struck down by the sword in battle.

May his (A)children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow!
10 May his children (B)wander about and beg,
    (C)seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
11 May (D)the creditor seize all that he has;
    may (E)strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
12 Let there be none to (F)extend kindness to him,
    nor any to (G)pity his fatherless children!
13 May his (H)posterity be cut off;
    may his (I)name be blotted out in the second generation!
14 May (J)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
    and let not the sin of his mother be (K)blotted out!
15 (L)Let them be before the Lord continually,
    that he may (M)cut off the memory of them from the earth!

16 For he did not remember to show kindness,
    but pursued (N)the poor and needy
    and (O)the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
17 (P)He loved to curse; let curses come[a] upon him!
    He did not delight in blessing; may it be far[b] from him!
18 He (Q)clothed himself with cursing as his coat;
    may it (R)soak[c] into his body like water,
    like oil into his bones!
19 May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,
    like a belt that he puts on every day!
20 May this be the reward of my (S)accusers from the Lord,
    of those who speak evil against my life!

Jeremiah Persecuted by Pashhur

20 Now (A)Pashhur the priest, the son of (B)Immer, who was (C)chief officer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. Then (D)Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet, and put him (E)in the stocks that were in the upper (F)Benjamin Gate of the house of the Lord. The next day, when (G)Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call your name (H)Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side. For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will make you (I)a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They shall fall by the sword of their enemies while you look on. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. He shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall strike them down with the sword. Moreover, (J)I will give all the wealth of the city, all its gains, all its (K)prized belongings, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them and seize them and carry them to Babylon. And you, (L)Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. To Babylon you shall go, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you and all your friends, (M)to whom you have prophesied falsely.”
