⁸ The destroyer^(A) will come against every town,
    and not a town will escape.
The valley will be ruined
    and the plateau^(B) destroyed,
    because the Lord has spoken.

²⁶ Put on sackcloth,^(A) my people,
    and roll in ashes;^(B)
mourn with bitter wailing^(C)
    as for an only son,^(D)
for suddenly the destroyer^(E)
    will come upon us.

⁵⁶ A destroyer^(A) will come against Babylon;
    her warriors will be captured,
    and their bows will be broken.^(B)
For the Lord is a God of retribution;
    he will repay^(C) in full.

²⁰ Moab is disgraced, for she is shattered.
    Wail^(A) and cry out!
Announce by the Arnon^(B)
    that Moab is destroyed.
²¹ Judgment has come to the plateau^(C)—
    to Holon,^(D) Jahzah^(E) and Mephaath,^(F)
22     to Dibon,^(G) Nebo^(H) and Beth Diblathaim,
²³     to Kiriathaim,^(I) Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,^(J)
24     to Kerioth^(K) and Bozrah^(L)—
    to all the towns^(M) of Moab, far and near.
²⁵ Moab’s horn^[a](N) is cut off;
    her arm^(O) is broken,”
declares the Lord.

¹⁸ “Come down from your glory
    and sit on the parched ground,^(A)
    you inhabitants of Daughter Dibon,^(B)
for the one who destroys Moab
    will come up against you
    and ruin your fortified cities.^(C)

⁸ I will make their widows^(A) more numerous
    than the sand of the sea.
At midday I will bring a destroyer^(B)
    against the mothers of their young men;
suddenly I will bring down on them
    anguish and terror.^(C)
