Be Patient and Persevering

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord [a]is at hand.

Do not [b]grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be [c]condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! 10 (A)My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and (B)patience. 11 Indeed (C)we count them blessed who (D)endure. You have heard of (E)the perseverance of Job and seen (F)the end intended by the Lord—that (G)the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

12 But above all, my brethren, (H)do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into [d]judgment.

Meeting Specific Needs(I)

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him (J)pray. Is anyone cheerful? (K)Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, (L)anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. (M)And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 [e]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. (N)The effective, [f]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man (O)with a nature like ours, and (P)he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed (Q)again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Bring Back the Erring One

19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone (R)turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way (S)will save [g]a soul from death and (T)cover a multitude of sins.

Be patient, then, brethren, till the presence of the Lord; lo, the husbandman doth expect the precious fruit of the earth, being patient for it, till he may receive rain -- early and latter;

be patient, ye also; establish your hearts, because the presence of the Lord hath drawn nigh;

murmur not against one another, brethren, that ye may not be condemned; lo, the Judge before the door hath stood.

10 An example take ye of the suffering of evil, my brethren, and of the patience, the prophets who did speak in the name of the Lord;

11 lo, we call happy those who are enduring; the endurance of Job ye heard of, and the end of the Lord ye have seen, that very compassionate is the Lord, and pitying.

12 And before all things, my brethren, do not swear, neither by the heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath, and let your Yes be Yes, and the No, No; that under judgment ye may not fall.

13 Doth any one suffer evil among you? let him pray; is any of good cheer? let him sing psalms;

14 is any infirm among you? let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, having anointed him with oil, in the name of the Lord,

15 and the prayer of the faith shall save the distressed one, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if sins he may have committed, they shall be forgiven to him.

16 Be confessing to one another the trespasses, and be praying for one another, that ye may be healed; very strong is a working supplication of a righteous man;

17 Elijah was a man like affected as we, and with prayer he did pray -- not to rain, and it did not rain upon the land three years and six months;

18 and again he did pray, and the heaven did give rain, and the land did bring forth her fruit.

19 Brethren, if any among you may go astray from the truth, and any one may turn him back,

20 let him know that he who did turn back a sinner from the straying of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

Exhortation

Therefore be patient, (A)brothers and sisters, (B)until the coming of the Lord. (C)The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until [a]it gets (D)the early and late rains. (E)You too be patient; (F)strengthen your hearts, for (G)the coming of the Lord is (H)near. (I)Do not [b]complain, (J)brothers and sisters, against one another, so that you may not be judged; behold, (K)the Judge is standing [c](L)right at the [d]door. 10 As an example, (M)brothers and sisters, of suffering and patience, take (N)the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We count those (O)blessed who endured. You have heard of (P)the [e]endurance of Job and have seen (Q)the [f]outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that (R)the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

12 But above all, (S)my brothers and sisters, (T)do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but [g]your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you do not fall under judgment.

13 Is anyone among you (U)suffering? (V)Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to (W)sing praises. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for (X)the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, [h](Y)anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the (Z)prayer of faith will [i](AA)restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will (AB)raise him up, and if he has committed sins, [j]they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, (AC)confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be (AD)healed. (AE)A [k]prayer of a righteous person, when it is [l]brought about, can accomplish much. 17 Elijah was (AF)a man with a nature like ours, and (AG)he prayed [m]earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for (AH)three years and six months. 18 Then he (AI)prayed again, and (AJ)the sky [n]poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

19 My brothers and sisters, (AK)if anyone among you strays from (AL)the truth and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that the one who has turned a sinner from the error of his way will (AM)save his soul from death and (AN)cover a multitude of sins.
