Favoritism Forbidden
2 My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious(A) Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.(B) 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges(C) with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters:(D) Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world(E) to be rich in faith(F) and to inherit the kingdom(G) he promised those who love him?(H) 6 But you have dishonored the poor.(I) Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?(J) 7 Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?
8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”[a](K) you are doing right. 9 But if you show favoritism,(L) you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.(M) 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles(N) at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.(O) 11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,”[b](P) also said, “You shall not murder.”[c](Q) If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.
12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged(R) by the law that gives freedom,(S) 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful.(T) Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Faith and Deeds
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?(U) Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.(V) 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?(W) 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.(X)
18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”
Show me your faith without deeds,(Y) and I will show you my faith(Z) by my deeds.(AA) 19 You believe that there is one God.(AB) Good! Even the demons believe that(AC)—and shudder.
20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]?(AD) 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?(AE) 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together,(AF) and his faith was made complete by what he did.(AG) 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[e](AH) and he was called God’s friend.(AI) 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?(AJ) 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.(AK)

2 형제 여러분, 영광스러운 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 믿는 성도답게 여러분은 사람의 겉모양만 보지 마십시오.
2 교회에 금반지를 끼고 화려한 옷을 입은 사람과 남루한 옷을 입은 가난한 사람이 들어올 때
3 만일 여러분이 화려한 옷을 입은 사람은 좋은 자리에 앉히고 가난한 사람에게는 “거기 섰든지 내 발 앞에 앉으시오” 하고 푸대접한다면
4 사람을 차별하여 악한 생각으로 판단한 셈이 되지 않습니까?
5 사랑하는 형제 여러분, 내 말을 잘 들으십시오. 하나님은 세상의 가난한 사람들을 택하여 믿음에 부요하게 하시고 자기를 사랑하는 사람들에게 약속하신 나라를 그들이 소유하게 하시지 않았습니까?
6 그런데도 여러분은 가난한 사람들을 업신여기고 있습니다. 여러분을 괴롭히며 법정으로 끌어가는 사람들은 부자들이 아닙니까?
7 그들은 여러분에게 주어진 고귀한 이름을 모독하지 않았습니까?
8 만일 여러분이 성경에 기록되어 있는 대로 [a]“네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라” 하신 최고의 법을 지키면 잘하는 것입니다.
9 그러나 여러분이 사람의 겉모양만 보고 판단한다면 죄를 짓는 것이며 율법이 여러분을 범죄자로 선언할 것입니다.
10 누구든지 율법을 다 지키다가도 그 중에 하나를 어기면 율법 전부를 범한 것이 됩니다.
11 [b]“간음하지 말아라” 고 하신 분이 [c]“살인하지 말아라” 고도 하셨습니다. 그러므로 간음하지 않아도 살인하게 되면 율법을 범한 셈이 됩니다.
12 여러분은 자유를 주는 그리스도의 법에 따라 판단을 받게 된다는 것을 잊지 말고 늘 조심스럽게 말하고 행동하십시오.
13 자비를 베풀지 않는 사람에게는 자비 없는 심판이 있을 것입니다. 자비는 심판을 이깁니다.
믿음과 행위
14 형제 여러분, 믿음이 있다고 하면서 실천하지 않으면 무슨 소용이 있습니까? 그런 믿음으로 구원을 받을 수 있겠습니까?
15 어떤 형제나 자매가 당장 입을 옷이 없고 끼니를 때울 양식이 없는데
16 여러분 가운데 누가 “평안히 가십시오. 몸을 따뜻하게 하십시오. 배불리 먹으십시오” 하고 실제로 필요한 것을 주지 않는다면 그런 말이 무슨 소용이 있겠습니까?
17 이와 같이 행동이 따르지 않는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것입니다.
18 그러나 어떤 사람은 이런 말을 할 것입니다. “너에게는 믿음이 있고 나에게는 행동이 있다. 행동이 따르지 않는 네 믿음을 나에게 보여라. 나는 행동으로 내 믿음을 너에게 보이겠다.”
19 여러분은 하나님이 한 분이신 것을 믿으니 잘하는 일입니다. 귀신들도 믿고 두려워서 떱니다.
20 어리석은 사람들이여, 행동이 따르지 않는 믿음은 아무 쓸모가 없다는 것을 모르십니까?
21 우리 조상 아브라함이 아들 이삭을 제단에 드릴 때 그가 행한 일로 의롭다는 인정을 받지 않았습니까?
22 여러분도 알고 있듯이 그의 믿음에는 행동이 따랐으며 그것으로 그의 믿음이 완전하게 되었습니다.
23 그래서 [d]“아브라함이 하나님을 믿었으므로 하나님은 이 믿음 때문에 그를 의롭게 여기셨다” 는 성경 말씀이 이루어졌고 그는 하나님의 친구로 불려졌습니다.
24 따라서 사람이 의롭다는 인정을 받는 것은 행동으로 되는 것이지 믿음만으로 되는 것이 아닙니다.

Beware of Personal Favoritism
2 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, (A)the Lord of glory, with (B)partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in [a]fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in [b]filthy clothes, 3 and you [c]pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” 4 have you not [d]shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my beloved brethren: (C)Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be (D)rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom (E)which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But (F)you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you (G)and drag you into the courts? 7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are (H)called?

Faith Without Works Is Dead(T)
14 (U)What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 (V)If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and (W)one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” (X)Show me your faith without [f]your works, (Y)and I will show you my faith by [g]my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [h]dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works (Z)when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see (AA)that faith was working together with his works, and by (AB)works faith was made [i]perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, (AC)“Abraham believed God, and it was [j]accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called (AD)the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Faith Without Works Is Dead

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith (W)apart from your works, and I will show you my faith (X)by my works. 19 (Y)You believe that God is one; you do well.
