5 A vous maintenant, riches! Pleurez et gémissez, à cause des malheurs qui viendront sur vous.
2 Vos richesses sont pourries, et vos vêtements sont rongés par les teignes.
3 Votre or et votre argent sont rouillés; et leur rouille s'élèvera en témoignage contre vous, et dévorera vos chairs comme un feu. Vous avez amassé des trésors dans les derniers jours!
4 Voici, le salaire des ouvriers qui ont moissonné vos champs, et dont vous les avez frustrés, crie, et les cris des moissonneurs sont parvenus jusqu'aux oreilles du Seigneur des armées.
5 Vous avez vécu sur la terre dans les voluptés et dans les délices, vous avez rassasiez vos coeurs au jour du carnage.
6 Vous avez condamné, vous avez tué le juste, qui ne vous a pas résisté.
7 Soyez donc patients, frères jusqu'à l'avènement du Seigneur. Voici, le laboureur attend le précieux fruit de la terre, prenant patience à son égard, jusqu'à ce qu'il ait reçu les pluies de la première et de l'arrière-saison.
8 Vous aussi, soyez patients, affermissez vos coeurs, car l'avènement du Seigneur est proche.
9 Ne vous plaignez pas les uns des autres, frères, afin que vous ne soyez pas jugés: voici, le juge est à la porte.
10 Prenez, mes frères, pour modèles de souffrance et de patience les prophètes qui ont parlé au nom du Seigneur.
11 Voici, nous disons bienheureux ceux qui ont souffert patiemment. Vous avez entendu parler de la patience de Job, et vous avez vu la fin que le Seigneur lui accorda, car le Seigneur est plein de miséricorde et de compassion.
12 Avant toutes choses, mes frères, ne jurez ni par le ciel, ni par la terre, ni par aucun autre serment. Mais que votre oui soit oui, et que votre non soit non, afin que vous ne tombiez pas sous le jugement.
13 Quelqu'un parmi vous est-il dans la souffrance? Qu'il prie. Quelqu'un est-il dans la joie? Qu'il chante des cantiques.
14 Quelqu'un parmi vous est-il malade? Qu'il appelle les anciens de l'Église, et que les anciens prient pour lui, en l'oignant d'huile au nom du Seigneur;
15 la prière de la foi sauvera le malade, et le Seigneur le relèvera; et s'il a commis des péchés, il lui sera pardonné.
16 Confessez donc vos péchés les uns aux autres, et priez les uns pour les autres, afin que vous soyez guéris. La prière fervente du juste a une grande efficace.
17 Élie était un homme de la même nature que nous: il pria avec instance pour qu'il ne plût point, et il ne tomba point de pluie sur la terre pendant trois ans et six mois.
18 Puis il pria de nouveau, et le ciel donna de la pluie, et la terre produisit son fruit.
19 Mes frères, si quelqu'un parmi vous s'est égaré loin de la vérité, et qu'un autre l'y ramène,
20 qu'il sache que celui qui ramènera un pécheur de la voie où il s'était égaré sauvera une âme de la mort et couvrira une multitude de péchés.

5 Hören nu, I rike: Gråten och jämren eder över det elände som skall komma över eder.
2 Eder rikedom multnar bort, och edra kläder frätas sönder av mal;
3 edert guld och silver förrostar, och rosten därpå skall vara eder till ett vittnesbörd och skall såsom en eld förtära edert kött. I haven samlat eder skatter i de yttersta dagarna.
4 Se, den lön I haven förhållit arbetarna som hava avbärgat edra åkrar, den ropar över eder, och skördemännens rop hava kommit fram till Herren Sebaots öron.
5 I haven levat i kräslighet på jorden och gjort eder goda dagar; I haven gött eder av hjärtans lust »på eder slaktedag».
6 I haven dömt den rättfärdige skyldig och haven dräpt honom; han står eder icke emot.
7 Så biden nu tåligt, mina bröder, intill Herrens tillkommelse. I sen huru åkermannen väntar på jordens dyrbara frukt och tåligt bidar efter den, till dess att den har fått höstregn och vårregn.
8 Ja, biden ock I tåligt, och styrken edra hjärtan; ty Herrens tillkommelse är nära.
9 Sucken icke mot varandra, mina bröder, på det att I icke mån bliva dömda. Se, domaren står för dörren.
10 Mina bröder, tagen profeterna, som talade i Herrens namn, till edert föredöme i att uthärda lidande och visa tålamod.
11 Vi prisa ju dem saliga, som hava varit ståndaktiga. Om Jobs ståndaktighet haven I hört, och I haven sett vilken utgång Herren beredde; ty Herren är nåderik och barmhärtig.
12 Men framför allt, mina bröder, svärjen icke, varken vid himmelen eller vid jorden, ej heller vid något annat, utan låten edert »ja» vara »ja», och edert »nej» vara »nej», så att I icke hemfallen under dom.
13 Får någon bland eder utstå lidande, så må han bedja.
14 Är någon glad, så må han sjunga lovsånger. Är någon bland eder sjuk, må han då kalla till sig församlingens äldste; och dessa må bedja över honom och i Herrens namn smörja honom med olja.
15 Och trons bön skall hjälpa den sjuke, och Herren skall låta honom stå upp igen; och om han har begått synder, skall detta bliva honom förlåtet.
16 Bekännen alltså edra synder för varandra, och bedjen för varandra, på det att I mån bliva botade. Mycket förmår en rättfärdig mans bön, när den bedes med kraft.
17 Elias var en människa, med samma natur som vi. Han bad en bön att det icke skulle regna, och det regnade icke på jorden under tre år och sex månader;
18 åter bad han, och då gav himmelen regn, och jorden bar sin frukt.
19 Mina bröder, om någon bland eder har farit vilse från sanningen, och någon omvänder honom,
20 så mån I veta att den som omvänder en syndare från hans villoväg, han frälsar hans själ från döden och överskyler en myckenhet av synder.

Warning to Rich Oppressors
5 Now listen,(A) you rich people,(B) weep and wail(C) because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.(D) 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.(E) 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers(F) who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries(G) of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.(H) 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves(I) in the day of slaughter.[a](J) 6 You have condemned and murdered(K) the innocent one,(L) who was not opposing you.
Patience in Suffering
7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.(M) See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting(N) for the autumn and spring rains.(O) 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming(P) is near.(Q) 9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters,(R) or you will be judged. The Judge(S) is standing at the door!(T)
10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets(U) who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we count as blessed(V) those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance(W) and have seen what the Lord finally brought about.(X) The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.(Y)
12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.(Z)
The Prayer of Faith
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.(AA) Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.(AB) 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders(AC) of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil(AD) in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith(AE) will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins(AF) to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.(AG) The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.(AH)
17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are.(AI) He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.(AJ) 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.(AK)
19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth(AL) and someone should bring that person back,(AM) 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save(AN) them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.(AO)

5 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
