Isaiah 54:4-8
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
4 Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed;
do not be discouraged, for you will not suffer disgrace,
for you will forget the shame of your youth,
and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more.(A)
5 For your Maker is your husband;
the Lord of hosts is his name;
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
the God of the whole earth he is called.(B)
6 For the Lord has called you
like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit,
like the wife of a man’s youth when she is cast off,
says your God.(C)
7 For a brief moment I abandoned you,
but with great compassion I will gather you.(D)
8 In overflowing wrath for a moment
I hid my face from you,
but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,
says the Lord, your Redeemer.(E)
Isaiah 54:4-8
Christian Standard Bible
4 “Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame;(A)
don’t be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced.
For you will forget the shame of your youth,
and you will no longer remember
the disgrace of your widowhood.(B)
5 Indeed, your husband is your Maker(C)—
his name is the Lord of Armies—
and the Holy One of Israel(D) is your Redeemer;(E)
he is called the God of the whole earth.
6 For the Lord has called you,
like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit,(F)
a wife of one’s youth(G) when she is rejected,”
says your God.
7 “I deserted you for a brief moment,(H)
but I will take you back with abundant compassion.
8 In a surge of anger
I hid my face(I) from you for a moment,
but I will have compassion on you
with everlasting love,”(J)
says the Lord your Redeemer.
