12 “I, even I, am He who (A)comforts you.
Who are you that you are afraid of (B)man who dies
And of the son of man who is made (C)like grass,
13 That you have (D)forgotten Yahweh your Maker,
Who (E)stretched out the heavens
And laid the foundations of the earth,
That you (F)tremble in dread continually all day long because of the wrath of the one who brings distress,
As he makes ready to bring ruin?
But where is the wrath of the (G)one who brings distress?

14 The (H)one in chains will soon be set free and will not die in the pit, (I)nor will his bread be lacking. 15 For I am Yahweh your God, who (J)stirs up the sea, and its waves roar—Yahweh of hosts is His name. 16 I have (K)put My words in your mouth and have (L)covered you with the shadow of My hand, to [a](M)establish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

  1. Isaiah 51:16 Lit plant

12 I, even I, am the one who comforts you.
Who are you, Zion,[a] that you fear humans, who die,
or a child of Adam, who passes away like grass?
13 You have forgotten the Lord, your Creator,
who stretches out the heavens,
who makes the earth stand firm.
You tremble continually all day,
because of the rage of the oppressor,
who is preparing to destroy.
But where is the rage of the oppressor now?
14 The prisoner[b] will soon be released.
He will not die and go to the pit,
and he will not lack bread.

15 I am the Lord your God,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar.
The Lord of Armies is his name!
16 I have placed my words in your mouth,
and with the shadow of my hand I have covered you—
I, who planted the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth,
I, who say to Zion, “You are my people.”
