Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem

3 For behold, the ^(A)Lord God of hosts
    is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah
support and supply,^[a]
    all ^(B)support of bread,
    and all support of water;
²^(C)the mighty man and the soldier,
    the judge and the prophet,
    the diviner and the elder,
³the captain of fifty
    and the man of rank,
the counselor and the skillful magician
    and the expert in charms.
⁴^(D)And I will make boys their princes,
    and infants^[b] shall rule over them.
⁵^(E)And the people will oppress one another,
    every one his fellow
    and every one his neighbor;
the youth will be insolent to the elder,
    and the despised to the honorable.

⁶For ^(F)a man will take hold of his brother
    in the house of his father, saying:
“You have a cloak;
    you shall be our leader,
and this heap of ruins
    shall be under your rule”;
⁷in that day he will speak out, saying:
“I will not be a ^(G)healer;^[c]
    in my house there is neither bread nor cloak;
you shall not make me
    leader of the people.”
⁸For Jerusalem has stumbled,
    and Judah has fallen,
because their ^(H)speech and their deeds are against the Lord,
    ^(I)defying his glorious presence.^[d]

⁹For the look on their faces bears witness against them;
    they proclaim their sin ^(J)like Sodom;
    they do not hide it.
Woe to them!
    ^(K)For they have brought evil on themselves.
¹⁰^(L)Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them,
    ^(M)for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.
¹¹^(N)Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him,
    for what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.
¹²My people—^(O)infants are their oppressors,
    and women rule over them.
O my people, ^(P)your guides mislead you
    and they have swallowed up^[e] the course of your paths.

¹³The Lord ^(Q)has taken his place to contend;
    he stands to judge peoples.
¹⁴The Lord will enter into judgment
    with the ^(R)elders and princes of his people:
“It is you who ^(S)have devoured^[f] the vineyard,
    ^(T)the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
¹⁵What do you mean by ^(U)crushing my people,
    by grinding the face of the poor?”
declares the Lord God of hosts.

¹⁶The Lord said:
^(V)Because ^(W)the daughters of Zion are haughty
    and walk with outstretched necks,
    glancing wantonly with their eyes,
mincing along as they go,
    ^(X)tinkling with their feet,
¹⁷therefore the Lord ^(Y)will strike with a scab
    the heads of ^(Z)the daughters of Zion,
    and the Lord will lay bare their secret parts.

¹⁸In that day the Lord will take away ^(AA)the finery of the anklets, the ^(AB)headbands, and the ^(AC)crescents; ¹⁹the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves; ²⁰the ^(AD)headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; ²¹the signet rings and ^(AE)nose rings; ²²the ^(AF)festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags; ²³the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.

²⁴Instead of ^(AG)perfume there will be rottenness;
    and instead of a ^(AH)belt, a rope;
and instead of ^(AI)well-set hair, ^(AJ)baldness;
    and instead of a rich robe, a ^(AK)skirt of sackcloth;
    and ^(AL)branding instead of beauty.
²⁵Your men shall fall by the sword
    and your mighty men in battle.
²⁶And ^(AM)her gates shall lament and mourn;
    empty, she shall ^(AN)sit on the ground.

4 ^(AO)And seven women ^(AP)shall take hold of ^(AQ)one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; ^(AR)take away our reproach.”

The Branch of the Lord Glorified

²In that day ^(AS)the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and ^(AT)the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel. ³^(AU)And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called ^(AV)holy, everyone who has ^(AW)been recorded for life in Jerusalem, ⁴when ^(AX)the Lord shall have washed away the filth of ^(AY)the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by ^(AZ)a spirit of burning.^[g] ⁵Then the Lord will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies ^(BA)a cloud by day, and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there will be ^(BB)a canopy. ⁶^(BC)There will be a ^(BD)booth for shade by day from the heat, and ^(BE)for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain.

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

3 ^(A)My son, do not forget my teaching,
^(B)but let your heart keep my commandments,
²for ^(C)length of days and years of life
and ^(D)peace they will add to you.

³Let not ^(E)steadfast love and ^(F)faithfulness forsake you;
    ^(G)bind them around your neck;
    ^(H)write them on the tablet of your heart.
⁴So you will ^(I)find favor and ^(J)good success^[a]
    in the sight of God and man.

⁵^(K)Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and ^(L)do not lean on your own understanding.
⁶In all your ways ^(M)acknowledge him,
    and he ^(N)will make straight your paths.
⁷^(O)Be not wise in your own eyes;
    ^(P)fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
⁸It will be ^(Q)healing to your flesh^[b]
    and ^(R)refreshment^[c] to your bones.

⁹Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with ^(S)the firstfruits of all your produce;
¹⁰then your ^(T)barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.

¹¹^(U)My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
¹²for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as ^(V)a father the son in whom he delights.

Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom

¹³^(W)Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
    and the one who gets understanding,
¹⁴^(X)for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
    and her profit better than ^(Y)gold.
¹⁵She is more precious than ^(Z)jewels,
    and ^(AA)nothing you desire can compare with her.
¹⁶^(AB)Long life is in her right hand;
    in her left hand are ^(AC)riches and honor.
¹⁷Her ^(AD)ways are ways of pleasantness,
    and all her paths are peace.
¹⁸She is ^(AE)a tree of life to those who ^(AF)lay hold of her;
    those who hold her fast are called blessed.

¹⁹^(AG)The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding ^(AH)he established the heavens;
²⁰by his knowledge ^(AI)the deeps broke open,
and ^(AJ)the clouds drop down the dew.

²¹My son, ^(AK)do not lose sight of these—
    keep sound wisdom and discretion,
²²and they will be ^(AL)life for your soul
    and ^(AM)adornment for your neck.
²³^(AN)Then you will walk on your way securely,
    ^(AO)and your foot will not stumble.
²⁴^(AP)If you lie down, you will not be afraid;
    when you lie down, ^(AQ)your sleep will be sweet.
²⁵^(AR)Do not be afraid of sudden terror
    or of ^(AS)the ruin^[d] of the wicked, when it comes,
²⁶for the Lord will be your confidence
    and will ^(AT)keep your foot from being caught.
²⁷^(AU)Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,^[e]
    when it is in your power to do it.

²⁸^(AV)Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again,
    tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.
²⁹^(AW)Do not plan evil against your neighbor,
    who ^(AX)dwells trustingly beside you.
³⁰^(AY)Do not contend with a man for no reason,
    when he has done you no harm.
³¹^(AZ)Do not envy ^(BA)a man of violence
    and do not choose any of his ways,
³²for ^(BB)the devious person is an abomination to the Lord,
    but the upright are ^(BC)in his confidence.
³³^(BD)The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked,
    but he ^(BE)blesses the dwelling of the righteous.
³⁴Toward the ^(BF)scorners he ^(BG)is scornful,
    ^(BH)but to the humble he gives favor.^[f]
³⁵The wise will inherit honor,
    but fools get^[g] disgrace.

Ephesians 6

Children and Parents

6 ^(A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ²^(B)“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), ³“that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” ⁴Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, ^(C)but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Bondservants and Masters

⁵^(D)Bondservants,^[a] obey your earthly masters^[b] with fear and trembling, ^(E)with a sincere heart, ^(F)as you would Christ, ⁶not by the way of eye-service, as ^(G)people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, ⁷rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, ⁸^(H)knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, ^(I)whether he is a bondservant or is free. ⁹Masters, do the same to them, ^(J)and stop your threatening, knowing that ^(K)he who is both their Master^[c] and yours is in heaven, and that ^(L)there is no partiality with him.

The Whole Armor of God

¹⁰Finally, ^(M)be strong in the Lord and in ^(N)the strength of his might. ¹¹^(O)Put on ^(P)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against ^(Q)the schemes of the devil. ¹²For ^(R)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against ^(S)the rulers, against the authorities, against ^(T)the cosmic powers over ^(U)this present darkness, against ^(V)the spiritual forces of evil ^(W)in the heavenly places. ¹³Therefore ^(X)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in ^(Y)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. ¹⁴Stand therefore, ^(Z)having fastened on the belt of truth, and ^(AA)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵and, ^(AB)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. ¹⁶In all circumstances take up ^(AC)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all ^(AD)the flaming darts of ^(AE)the evil one; ¹⁷and take ^(AF)the helmet of salvation, and ^(AG)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, ¹⁸praying ^(AH)at all times ^(AI)in the Spirit, ^(AJ)with all prayer and supplication. To that end, ^(AK)keep alert with all perseverance, making ^(AL)supplication for all the saints, ¹⁹and ^(AM)also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth ^(AN)boldly to proclaim ^(AO)the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰for which I ^(AP)am an ambassador ^(AQ)in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Final Greetings

²¹^(AR)So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, ^(AS)Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything. ²²I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may ^(AT)encourage your hearts.

²³^(AU)Peace be to the brothers,^[d] and ^(AV)love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴Grace be with all who ^(AW)love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.
