Isaiah 25

Yahweh Will Swallow Up Death
25 O Yahweh, You are (A)my God;
I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;
For You have (B)worked wonders,
(C)Counsels formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
2 For You have made a city into a (D)heap,
A (E)fortified town into a ruin;
A (F)palace of strangers is a city no more,
It will never be rebuilt.
3 Therefore a strong people will (G)glorify You;
(H)Towns of ruthless nations will fear You.
4 For You have been a (I)strong defense for the poor,
A strong defense for the needy in his distress,
A (J)refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat;
For the breath of the (K)ruthless
Is like a rain storm against a wall.
5 Like heat in a dry land, You subdue the (L)rumbling of strangers;
Like heat by the shadow of a cloud, the song of the ruthless is [a]silenced.
6 (M)And Yahweh of hosts will prepare a [b]lavish banquet for (N)all peoples on this mountain;
A banquet of [c]aged wine, [d]choice pieces with marrow,
And [e]refined, aged wine.
7 And on this mountain He will swallow up the [f](O)covering which is over all peoples,
Even the veil which is [g]stretched over all nations.
8 He will (P)swallow up death for all time,
And Lord Yahweh will (Q)wipe tears away from all faces,
And He will remove the (R)reproach of His people from all the earth;
For Yahweh has spoken.
9 And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, (S)this is our God in whom we have (T)hoped that (U)He would save us.
This is Yahweh in whom we have hoped;
(V)Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
10 For the hand of Yahweh will rest on this mountain,
And (W)Moab will be trodden down in his place
As straw is trodden down in the water of a manure pile.
11 And he will (X)spread out his hands in the middle of it
As a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim,
But Yahweh will (Y)lay low his lofty pride together with the trickery of his hands.
12 The (Z)unassailable fortifications of your walls He will bring down,
Lay low, and cast to the ground, even to the dust.

Isaiah 25
Revised Geneva Translation
25 O LORD, You are my God! I will exalt You. I will praise Your Name. For You have done wonderful things, ancient counsel, with firm faithfulness!
2 For You have made a heap of a city, a ruin of a strong city, a fortress of strangers to be no city. It shall never be built.
3 Therefore, the mighty people shall give glory to You. The city of the strong nations shall fear You.
4 For You have been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his trouble, a refuge from the storm, a shade in the heat. For the blast of the mighty is like a hard rain against the wall.
5 You shall bring down the noise of the strangers, as the heat in a dry place. He will bring down the song of the mighty, as the heat with the shade of a cloud.
6 And on this mountain shall the LORD of Hosts make a feast of fat things for all people, a feast of refined wines, of fat things full of marrow, of refined and purified wines.
7 And on this mountain, He will destroy the covering that covers all people, and the veil that is spread upon all nations.
8 He will destroy death forever. And the LORD God will wipe away the tears from all faces. And He will take away the rebuke of His people out of all the Earth. For the LORD has spoken it.
9 And on that day men shall say, “Lo, this is our God! We have waited for Him, and He will save us! This is the LORD! We have waited for Him! We will rejoice and be joyful in salvation!”
10 For on this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest. And Moab shall be threshed under Him, as straw is threshed in Madmenah.
11 And He shall stretch out His hand in the midst of them, as he who swims stretches out to swim. And with the strength of His hands He shall bring down their pride.
12 Also, He shall bring down the defense of the height of your walls and lay them low, cast them to the ground, into the dust.

Praise to the Lord
25 Lord, you are my God;(A)
I will exalt you and praise your name,(B)
for in perfect faithfulness(C)
you have done wonderful things,(D)
things planned(E) long ago.
2 You have made the city a heap of rubble,(F)
the fortified(G) town a ruin,(H)
the foreigners’ stronghold(I) a city no more;
it will never be rebuilt.(J)
3 Therefore strong peoples will honor you;(K)
cities of ruthless(L) nations will revere you.
4 You have been a refuge(M) for the poor,(N)
a refuge for the needy(O) in their distress,
a shelter from the storm(P)
and a shade from the heat.
For the breath of the ruthless(Q)
is like a storm driving against a wall
5 and like the heat of the desert.
You silence(R) the uproar of foreigners;(S)
as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud,
so the song of the ruthless(T) is stilled.
6 On this mountain(U) the Lord Almighty will prepare
a feast(V) of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
the best of meats and the finest of wines.(W)
7 On this mountain he will destroy
the shroud(X) that enfolds all peoples,(Y)
the sheet that covers all nations;
8 he will swallow up death(Z) forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears(AA)
from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace(AB)
from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.(AC)
9 In that day(AD) they will say,
“Surely this is our God;(AE)
we trusted(AF) in him, and he saved(AG) us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him;
let us rejoice(AH) and be glad in his salvation.”(AI)
10 The hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain;(AJ)
but Moab(AK) will be trampled in their land
as straw is trampled down in the manure.
11 They will stretch out their hands in it,
as swimmers stretch out their hands to swim.
God will bring down(AL) their pride(AM)
despite the cleverness[a] of their hands.
12 He will bring down your high fortified walls(AN)
and lay them low;(AO)
he will bring them down to the ground,
to the very dust.
