Isaiah 1:27-31

New International Version

²⁷Zion will be delivered with justice,
her penitent^(A) ones with righteousness.^(B)
²⁸But rebels and sinners^(C) will both be broken,
and those who forsake^(D) the Lord will perish.^(E)

²⁹“You will be ashamed^(F) because of the sacred oaks^(G)
    in which you have delighted;
you will be disgraced because of the gardens^(H)
    that you have chosen.
³⁰You will be like an oak with fading leaves,^(I)
    like a garden without water.
³¹The mighty man will become tinder
    and his work a spark;
both will burn together,
    with no one to quench the fire.^(J)”

²⁸But ^[b]wrongdoers and sinners together will be ^(B)broken,
And those who abandon the Lord will come to an end.
²⁹^[c]You certainly will be ashamed of the ^[d]^(C)oaks which you have desired,
And you will be embarrassed by the ^(D)gardens which you have chosen.
³⁰For you will be like an ^[e]oak whose ^(E)leaf withers away,
Or like a garden that has no water.
³¹The strong man will become like ^[f]flax fiber,
And his work a spark.
So they shall both ^(F)burn together
And there will be ^(G)no one to extinguish them.
