24 The Lord Almighty has sworn,(A)

“Surely, as I have planned,(B) so it will be,
    and as I have purposed, so it will happen.(C)
25 I will crush the Assyrian(D) in my land;
    on my mountains I will trample him down.
His yoke(E) will be taken from my people,
    and his burden removed from their shoulders.(F)

26 This is the plan(G) determined for the whole world;
    this is the hand(H) stretched out over all nations.
27 For the Lord Almighty has purposed,(I) and who can thwart him?
    His hand(J) is stretched out, and who can turn it back?(K)

A Prophecy Against the Philistines

28 This prophecy(L) came in the year(M) King Ahaz(N) died:

29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines,(O)
    that the rod that struck you is broken;
from the root of that snake will spring up a viper,(P)
    its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent.(Q)
30 The poorest of the poor will find pasture,
    and the needy(R) will lie down in safety.(S)
But your root I will destroy by famine;(T)
    it will slay(U) your survivors.(V)

31 Wail,(W) you gate!(X) Howl, you city!
    Melt away, all you Philistines!(Y)
A cloud of smoke comes from the north,(Z)
    and there is not a straggler in its ranks.(AA)
32 What answer shall be given
    to the envoys(AB) of that nation?
“The Lord has established Zion,(AC)
    and in her his afflicted people will find refuge.(AD)

A Prophecy Against Moab(AE)

15 A prophecy(AF) against Moab:(AG)

Ar(AH) in Moab is ruined,(AI)
    destroyed in a night!
Kir(AJ) in Moab is ruined,
    destroyed in a night!
Dibon(AK) goes up to its temple,
    to its high places(AL) to weep;
    Moab wails(AM) over Nebo(AN) and Medeba.
Every head is shaved(AO)
    and every beard cut off.(AP)
In the streets they wear sackcloth;(AQ)
    on the roofs(AR) and in the public squares(AS)
they all wail,(AT)
    prostrate with weeping.(AU)
Heshbon(AV) and Elealeh(AW) cry out,
    their voices are heard all the way to Jahaz.(AX)
Therefore the armed men of Moab cry out,
    and their hearts are faint.

My heart cries out(AY) over Moab;(AZ)
    her fugitives(BA) flee as far as Zoar,(BB)
    as far as Eglath Shelishiyah.
They go up the hill to Luhith,
    weeping as they go;
on the road to Horonaim(BC)
    they lament their destruction.(BD)
The waters of Nimrim are dried up(BE)
    and the grass is withered;(BF)
the vegetation is gone(BG)
    and nothing green is left.(BH)
So the wealth they have acquired(BI) and stored up
    they carry away over the Ravine of the Poplars.
Their outcry echoes along the border of Moab;
    their wailing reaches as far as Eglaim,
    their lamentation as far as Beer(BJ) Elim.
The waters of Dimon[a] are full of blood,
    but I will bring still more upon Dimon[b]
a lion(BK) upon the fugitives of Moab(BL)
    and upon those who remain in the land.

16 Send lambs(BM) as tribute(BN)
    to the ruler of the land,
from Sela,(BO) across the desert,
    to the mount of Daughter Zion.(BP)
Like fluttering birds
    pushed from the nest,(BQ)
so are the women of Moab(BR)
    at the fords(BS) of the Arnon.(BT)

“Make up your mind,” Moab says.
    “Render a decision.
Make your shadow like night—
    at high noon.
Hide the fugitives,(BU)
    do not betray the refugees.
Let the Moabite fugitives stay with you;
    be their shelter(BV) from the destroyer.”

The oppressor(BW) will come to an end,
    and destruction will cease;(BX)
    the aggressor will vanish from the land.
In love a throne(BY) will be established;(BZ)
    in faithfulness a man will sit on it—
    one from the house[c] of David(CA)
one who in judging seeks justice(CB)
    and speeds the cause of righteousness.

We have heard of Moab’s(CC) pride(CD)
    how great is her arrogance!—
of her conceit, her pride and her insolence;
    but her boasts are empty.
Therefore the Moabites wail,(CE)
    they wail together for Moab.
Lament and grieve
    for the raisin cakes(CF) of Kir Hareseth.(CG)
The fields of Heshbon(CH) wither,(CI)
    the vines of Sibmah(CJ) also.
The rulers of the nations
    have trampled down the choicest vines,(CK)
which once reached Jazer(CL)
    and spread toward the desert.
Their shoots spread out(CM)
    and went as far as the sea.[d](CN)
So I weep,(CO) as Jazer weeps,
    for the vines of Sibmah.
Heshbon and Elealeh,(CP)
    I drench you with tears!(CQ)
The shouts of joy(CR) over your ripened fruit
    and over your harvests(CS) have been stilled.
10 Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards;(CT)
    no one sings or shouts(CU) in the vineyards;
no one treads(CV) out wine at the presses,(CW)
    for I have put an end to the shouting.
11 My heart laments for Moab(CX) like a harp,(CY)
    my inmost being(CZ) for Kir Hareseth.
12 When Moab appears at her high place,(DA)
    she only wears herself out;
when she goes to her shrine(DB) to pray,
    it is to no avail.(DC)

13 This is the word the Lord has already spoken concerning Moab. 14 But now the Lord says: “Within three years,(DD) as a servant bound by contract(DE) would count them,(DF) Moab’s splendor and all her many people will be despised,(DG) and her survivors will be very few and feeble.”(DH)
