The King of Peace Is Coming
11 A ·new branch [sprout; shoot; C the Messiah] will grow
from the stump of Jesse [C king David’s father; the Messiah will restore David’s royal line];
a branch will ·come [sprout; or bear fruit]
from his roots.
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him [1 Sam. 16:13; Matt. 3:16].
The Spirit will give him wisdom and understanding, ·guidance [counsel] and power.
The Spirit ·will teach him to know [L of knowledge] and ·respect [the fear of] the Lord.
3 ·This king will be glad to [L He will gladly/with delight] ·obey [revere; fear] the Lord.
He will not judge by ·the way things look [appearances; L the vision of his eyes]
or decide by ·what he hears [L the hearing of his ears].
4 But he will judge the poor ·honestly [with justice/righteousness];
he will be ·fair [upright; just; fair] in his decisions for the ·poor [oppressed; meek] people of the ·land [or earth].
·At his command evil people will be punished [L He will strike the earth with the rod/scepter of his mouth],
and by ·his words the wicked will be put to death [L the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked].
5 ·Goodness [Righteousness; Justice] will be like a belt around his waist,
and ·fairness [faithfulness; integrity] like a belt around his ·hips [waist; T loins].
6 The wolf will ·live in peace [L live; dwell] with the lamb,
and the leopard will ·lie down to rest [L lie down] with the young goat [C peace within the animal kingdom symbolizes the restoration of creation; 65:25].
Calves, lions, and ·young bulls [or fattened calves; L fatling] will ·eat [or be] together,
and a little child will lead them.
7 Cows and bears will ·eat [graze] together in peace.
Their young will lie down to rest together.
Lions will eat ·hay [straw] as oxen do.
8 A ·baby [nursing infant] will ·be able to play [L play] near a cobra’s hole,
and a child will ·be able to put [L put] his hand into the nest of a ·poisonous snake [adder; viper].
9 They will not hurt or destroy each other
on all my holy mountain,
because the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord,
as the ·sea is full of water [L waters cover the sea].
10 At that time the ·new king from the family [L root; v. 1] of Jesse will stand as a ·banner [standard; signal flag] for all ·peoples [nations]. The ·nations [Gentiles] will ·come together around [rally to; or seek guidance from] him, and ·the place where he lives [T his resting place] will be filled with glory. 11 ·At that time [L In that day] the Lord will ·again [L again a second time; C the first time was the Exodus from Egypt] ·reach out and take [L reclaim/acquire with his hand the remnant of] his people who ·are left alive [remain] in Assyria, North Egypt, ·South Egypt [L Pathros], Cush, Elam, ·Babylonia [L Shinar], Hamath, and all the ·islands [or coastlands] of the sea.
12 God will raise a ·banner as a sign [standard; signal flag] for all nations,
and he will gather the ·people of Israel who were forced from their country [L exiles/banished ones of Israel].
He will gather the scattered people of Judah
from ·all parts [L the four corners/edges] of the earth.
13 At that time ·Israel [L Ephraim; C the most influential tribe of the northern kingdom of Israel] will not be jealous anymore,
and ·Judah will have no more enemies [or Judah’s hostility will end].
·Israel [L Ephraim] will not be jealous of Judah,
and Judah will not ·hate [harrass; be hostile towards] Israel.
14 But Israel and Judah will ·attack [L swoop down on the hills/or shoulders of] the Philistines on the west.
Together they will ·take the riches from [plunder; loot] the ·people [L sons] of the east.
They will ·conquer [L send their hand against] Edom and Moab,
and the ·people [L sons; children] of Ammon will be ·under their control [subject/obedient to them].
15 The Lord will ·dry up [or utterly destroy]
the ·Red Sea of Egypt [L tongue/gulf of the Egyptian sea].
He will wave his ·arm [or hand] over the ·Euphrates River [L River]
·and dry it up with a scorching wind [L with a scorching wind/breath].
He will ·divide [strike; break] it into seven small rivers
so that people can walk across them with their sandals on.
16 So ·God’s people who are left alive [L the remnant of his people who remain]
will have a ·way to leave [highway from] Assyria,
just like the time the Israelites
came out of Egypt [C a new and greater Exodus].

11 Una vara saldrá del tronco de Isaí; un vástago(A) retoñará de sus raíces.(B) 2 Sobre él reposará el espíritu del Señor; el espíritu de sabiduría y de inteligencia; el espíritu de consejo y de poder, el espíritu de conocimiento y de temor del Señor. 3 Su deleite será temer al Señor. No juzgará según las apariencias, ni dictará sentencia según los rumores. 4 Defenderá los derechos de los pobres, y dictará sentencias justas en favor de la gente humilde del país. Su boca será la vara que hiera la tierra; sus labios serán el ventarrón que mate al impío.(C) 5 La justicia y la fidelidad serán el cinto que ceñirá su cintura.(D)
6 El lobo convivirá con el cordero; el leopardo se acostará junto al cabrito; el becerro, el león y el animal engordado andarán juntos, y un chiquillo los pastoreará. 7 La vaca y la osa pacerán, sus crías se echarán juntas; y el león comerá paja como buey. 8 El niño de pecho jugará sobre la cueva del áspid, y el recién destetado extenderá su mano sobre la cueva de la víbora. 9 Nadie hará mal ni daño alguno en ninguna parte de mi santo monte,(E) porque la tierra estará saturada del conocimiento del Señor, así como las aguas cubren el mar.(F)
10 Cuando llegue ese día, sucederá que los pueblos irán en busca de la raíz de Isaí,(G) la cual se plantará como estandarte de las naciones; y su habitación será gloriosa.
11 Cuando llegue ese día, sucederá que el Señor levantará una vez más su mano para recobrar el remanente de su pueblo que aún quede en Asiria, Egipto, Patros, Etiopía, Elam, Sinar y Jamat, y en las costas del mar; 12 levantará un estandarte contra las naciones, y de los cuatro confines de la tierra juntará a los desterrados de Israel y a los esparcidos de Judá. 13 Entonces se disipará la envidia de Efraín, y los enemigos de Judá serán destruidos. Efraín no tendrá envidia de Judá, ni Judá afligirá a Efraín; 14 sobre los hombros de los filisteos volarán al occidente, y saquearán también a los que habitan en el oriente; Edom y Moab les servirán, y los amonitas los obedecerán. 15 Entonces el Señor secará el mar de Egipto, que parece una lengua, y con el poder de su espíritu levantará su mano sobre el río y lo partirá en siete brazos, para que pueda cruzarse con sandalias,(H) 16 y el remanente de su pueblo, el que haya quedado de Asiria, tendrá un camino, como lo tuvo Israel cuando salió de la tierra de Egipto.

The Branch From Jesse
11 A shoot(A) will come up from the stump(B) of Jesse;(C)
from his roots a Branch(D) will bear fruit.(E)
2 The Spirit(F) of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom(G) and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,(H)
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
3 and he will delight in the fear(I) of the Lord.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,(J)
or decide by what he hears with his ears;(K)
4 but with righteousness(L) he will judge the needy,(M)
with justice(N) he will give decisions for the poor(O) of the earth.
He will strike(P) the earth with the rod of his mouth;(Q)
with the breath(R) of his lips he will slay the wicked.(S)
5 Righteousness will be his belt(T)
and faithfulness(U) the sash around his waist.(V)
6 The wolf will live with the lamb,(W)
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together;
and a little child will lead them.
7 The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.(X)
8 The infant(Y) will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s(Z) nest.
9 They will neither harm nor destroy(AA)
on all my holy mountain,(AB)
for the earth(AC) will be filled with the knowledge(AD) of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.
10 In that day(AE) the Root of Jesse(AF) will stand as a banner(AG) for the peoples; the nations(AH) will rally to him,(AI) and his resting place(AJ) will be glorious.(AK) 11 In that day(AL) the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving remnant(AM) of his people from Assyria,(AN) from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt,(AO) from Cush,[b](AP) from Elam,(AQ) from Babylonia,[c] from Hamath(AR) and from the islands(AS) of the Mediterranean.(AT)
12 He will raise a banner(AU) for the nations
and gather(AV) the exiles of Israel;(AW)
he will assemble the scattered people(AX) of Judah
from the four quarters of the earth.(AY)
13 Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish,
and Judah’s enemies[d] will be destroyed;
Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim.(AZ)
14 They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia(BA) to the west;
together they will plunder the people to the east.(BB)
They will subdue Edom(BC) and Moab,(BD)
and the Ammonites(BE) will be subject to them.(BF)
15 The Lord will dry up(BG)
the gulf of the Egyptian sea;
with a scorching wind(BH) he will sweep his hand(BI)
over the Euphrates River.(BJ)
He will break it up into seven streams
so that anyone can cross over in sandals.(BK)
16 There will be a highway(BL) for the remnant(BM) of his people
that is left from Assyria,(BN)
as there was for Israel
when they came up from Egypt.(BO)
