⁷ Return to your rest,^(A) my soul,
    for the Lord has been good^(B) to you.

¹² to whom he said,
    “This is the resting place, let the weary rest”;^(A)
and, “This is the place of repose”—
    but they would not listen.

“Stand at the crossroads and look;
    ask for the ancient paths,^(A)
ask where the good way^(B) is, and walk in it,
    and you will find rest^(C) for your souls.
    But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

¹⁰ “‘So do not be afraid,^(A) Jacob my servant;^(B)
    do not be dismayed, Israel,’
declares the Lord.
‘I will surely save^(C) you out of a distant place,
    your descendants from the land of their exile.
Jacob will again have peace and security,^(D)
