He Was Pierced for Our Transgressions
13 Behold, (A)my servant shall act wisely;[a]
he shall be high and lifted up,
and shall be exalted.
14 As many were astonished at you—
(B)his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,
and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—
15 so (C)shall he sprinkle[b] many nations.
(D)Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,
(E)for that which has not been told them they see,
and that which they have not heard they understand.
53 (F)Who has believed what he has heard from us?[c]
And to whom has (G)the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
(H)and like a root out of dry ground;
(I)he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 (J)He was despised and rejected[d] by men,
a man of sorrows[e] and acquainted with[f] grief;[g]
and as one from whom men hide their faces[h]
he was despised, and (K)we esteemed him not.
4 (L)Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
(M)smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 (N)But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
(O)and with his wounds we are healed.
6 (P)All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
(Q)and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

The Suffering and Glory of the Servant
13 See, my servant(A) will act wisely[a];
he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.(B)
14 Just as there were many who were appalled(C) at him[b]—
his appearance was so disfigured(D) beyond that of any human being
and his form marred beyond human likeness(E)—
15 so he will sprinkle(F) many nations,[c]
and kings(G) will shut their mouths(H) because of him.
For what they were not told, they will see,
and what they have not heard, they will understand.(I)
53 Who has believed our message(J)
and to whom has the arm(K) of the Lord been revealed?(L)
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,(M)
and like a root(N) out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance(O) that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering,(P) and familiar with pain.(Q)
Like one from whom people hide(R) their faces
he was despised,(S) and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,(T)
yet we considered him punished by God,(U)
stricken by him, and afflicted.(V)
5 But he was pierced(W) for our transgressions,(X)
he was crushed(Y) for our iniquities;
the punishment(Z) that brought us peace(AA) was on him,
and by his wounds(AB) we are healed.(AC)
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,(AD)
each of us has turned to our own way;(AE)
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity(AF) of us all.

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and (A)sin which clings so closely, and (B)let us run (C)with endurance the race that is (D)set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, (E)who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising (F)the shame, and (G)is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Do Not Grow Weary
3 (H)Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or (I)fainthearted.

57 (A)Then (B)those who had seized Jesus led him to (C)Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 And (D)Peter was following him at a distance, as far as (E)the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with (F)the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council[a] (G)were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, (H)though many false witnesses came forward. At last (I)two came forward 61 and said, “This man said, (J)‘I am able to (K)destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” 62 And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[b] 63 (L)But Jesus remained silent. (M)And the high priest said to him, (N)“I adjure you by (O)the living God, (P)tell us if you are (Q)the Christ, (R)the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, (S)“You have said so. But I tell you, from now on (T)you will see the Son of Man (U)seated at the right hand of Power and (V)coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest (W)tore his robes and said, (X)“He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?” They answered, (Y)“He deserves death.”

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(A)
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas(B) the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.(C) He entered and sat down with the guards(D) to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(E) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses(F) came forward.
Finally two(G) came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”(H)
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.(I)
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath(J) by the living God:(K) Tell us if you are the Messiah,(L) the Son of God.”(M)
64 “You have said so,”(N) Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One(O) and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[a](P)
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes(Q) and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,”(R) they answered.
